Um, the Hobbit is written in a much lighter mood, it was a children's story originally. So the rather dark atmosphere of the Lord of the Rings would not do it credit.

Not quite true. Tolkien wrote another book, telling what happened to everyone.

Just watched the film, great, loved it!
A little too long for my liking though.

Great film, excellent work by Peter Jackson. Best movie this year in my opinion. People complain that it's too long, but hey, with a masterpiece like that, I wouldn't care how long it went. I can't wait for the extended version.

I only wish that at the end, they would have had put in the scouring of the Shire. It was a nice thing to put in the book, it basically was reshowing the strength and courage that the hobbits had.

Saruman killed Legolas and ate the corpse.

He then dressed up like Legolas and acted the whole movie instead of him.

They cut a bit of the book out. There was a big fight at the end with Saruman. It's a shame it wasn't included, but would probably of made the film 5+ hours long.
