Thor, how can we ask for e-mail addresses ?

Hi Thor, thanks for your reply about the posting of HTML clickable liks-I was very happy to read about it!
Now, is it possible to request an e-mail address from our posters as a requirement for them to be able to post to the forum? For those of us that deal with professionals, being able to ask them if they would like to receive a newsletter for instance, or updates on already published material, can only be done by e-mail.It is very important for us, and it makes the forum a true business endeavor, rather than a pastime!
Thanks Thor!

It is actually planned. It will be private messaging.

Private messages will be sent simply by email to the users.

However, you, the administrator of your board, will not have access to the emails. You will have an option to mass email all your board's members, or email a particular member. The members will have an option to choose whether or not they want to accept private messages.

To be honest, there are quite a bit of such features I need to program - it's only a matter of time. I have a full time job, and only work on Akheva in the evenings and some weekends.

The embeddable HTML links and graphics will, hopefully, be ready this weekend. Private messaging will be the next thing I'll implement.

Thank you for replying Thor-that ability to communicate with our members will be a great feature. I wonder what will be the future of Akheva....perhaps you will require payment to keep the forums? It's hard to believe it will be free!

My goal is to keep the forum functionallity free.

I plan on adding NEW extra features that would be pay only - but not necessary for the basic forum functionning. I do not have any short time plans on that, though.

At any rate, I am commited to keep the site free of popup ads. The popup ads have ruined the web experience on the internet for me on most web sites, I sure don't feel like using them on Akheva.

"NO popup ads"-Thor

I can think of few things that are as good to hear as your words about "NO POP UPS". They even ruined ivillage.com. I leave any site that has pop-ups, and have software to stop them on my computer. Thanks for replying!

Thor, you wrote me:"The members will have an option to choose whether or not they want to accept private messages".
It would be best to give the owner/administrator of a forum the option (at the control panel) of 1) Give members the ability to receive pr. messages from each other, or
2)Give members the ability to receive pr. messages ONLY from the owner/administrator of the forum.
I say that because if a forum is profession-based, its purpose is to post topics, and get responses, that others can read, and post things, and so on...creating a community, rather than to provide a "meeting ground", as if it's a dating service....
What do you think?

Remember that about 99% of the user accounts on akheva are Global accounts - this means they are valid for all the akheva boards. I can not give a board administrator the power of deciding whether or not a particular user should receive private messages or not. I think it is up to the user really.

The admin of a board will have the option to mass message all its board's members, or just a select few. That's about it, for now.

It will be implemented this weekend, thanks for your patience :-)
