My membership-only board doesn't allow people to apply for membership?

I have the same issue, unfortunately. Anyone have an idea of what we can do? EDIT: Making a post here says it gives you membership (with a message like "Ding! Ding!!") but the request membership prompt remains on other boards, resulting in the same issue with clicking "Request" telling you it doesn't require it.

Re: My membership-only board doesn't allow people to apply for membership?
You have your board, Evil Babes, set as public. It says:
Everyone can read
Logged in users can write
Posting one message gives membership
You need to reset those to:
Read access, Require membership
Write access, Require membership
Membership gaining method, Submit an application
Each of the individual forums needs to be set to Board Default, unless you want them to be different. I don't see any of them that is set to Submit an Application.

Re: My membership-only board doesn't allow people to apply for membership?
For years and years (until a month or two ago) everyone got an automatic memberhsip application when attempting to enter the board. I haven't changed anything recently, so I have to question what's up.
Moreover - switching "Quick security" settings under "Board Management" (is that what you're referring to?) to "Private Board, application based" (without marking "clear membership") apparently removed membership from a lot of members for some reason?
I.E, board statistics still show 12000 members, but I've suddenly had a flood of "hi, my memberhsip was cancelled for some reason?" applications.
Edit - for some reason, trying to add a reply gives me a "this topic doesn't exist" error. I had to quote a post in order for the reply to work.

Re: My membership-only board doesn't allow people to apply for membership?
Now, your entire board is set up to public. You need to change those settings. I used "Security management - Advanced security settings" to check this out. I did not look at "Quick Settings".
What I see is that your board has 121 members.
So far, I have not gotten a "this topic doesn't exist" error. I hope that does not repeat.
I have also sent for Lesa to look at your post, because you are reporting odd things happening.
For now, I suggest you go to "Security management - Advanced security settings" and change your settings.

Using "Quick security" changed the settings for all your forums. You need to use Advanced Security to tailor the settings of individual forums.
