I just discovered mp4 video. It looks awesome and much more flexible than animated gif images.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Like you said, mp4 is a video format, but gif is just an image format, and can't render sound.

If you want to compare something with animated gifs, look into apng (animated png). It's the same as comparing a static gif with png, but with animation.

Four years ago, Firefox was the only browser I was aware of that could support apng, and I had tried it on other browsers back then. Now, I think pretty much everything except Microsoft browsers (Edge and Explorer) support it.

Most of my videos on YouTube, all the way back to when I first created my YouTube channel, were rendered in mp4 before I uploaded them, and that is still what I use. emoticon
