A Longer List of User Posts History

Hello, everyone.

I hope this has not been addressed already, but I am tired and a member on my board asked this question. I told him that if it is not currently possible, it might be something we can add to the Feature Requests.

I quote him below so that I do not accidentally misstate his question. emoticon

Can you get a more complete list of your postings other than just the last ten?

I have not found it if you can.
If you can, may I please have directions to it?
If no, can we please have something like that?

As near as I can tell it would have to be a programming change by Thor to allow for more than 10 posts to show up. Currently we do not have that ability even under a "premium user" account.

We have a member who averages about 137.8 posts per day. If we did it by date and went back to the beginning of February, that would make her last posts list more than 18,000 posts long. emoticon

That said, we can move this thread to Feature Requests for you. How many last posts do you think should be listed?

Warrior Monk might also be able to find some of his posts from that timeframe by doing this Google search.

I feel it would end up being counter productive to tie the list to a time frame based on what LG has shown us. Still, it might be doable as a profile selection, showing the last 10 posts by default with the option to show up to perhaps the last 50 posts in 5 post increments.

Lesa, that number is daunting...

Maybe we could make it board specific? Like "show me my last posts on this board for the last three months"?

Or the last 50 posts on Runboard in general.

Both options would be awesome if you remember posting something but can't find it again.

Re: Is there a Way to View a Longer List of Our Own Posts?

I had actually thought it would be nice to be able to look up a member's last posts on a specific board, whether they're my own or someone else's if they have their privacy set to show them. A major addition like that wouldn't happen right away, unfortunately, but it would be neat.

I still wouldn't do three months for a board, because someone would probably still have more than 10,000 at one board. What about starting with 10 posts and a "See more" link, and every time you click that link it shows 10 more, up to 100 posts?

That is a nice idea Lesa. I think this is a perfect place to put in a new "premium user" feature. Free users could hit the button once to see their next 10 posts (for a total of twenty), if they hit the "more" button a second time then a nice message could show saying something to the effect that viewing more than 20 prior posts is a "premium user" feature. The set the "premium user" feature to show up to 100 or so prior posts as you describe.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I am giving Warrior Monk a summary (shorter answer) and a link to this topic so that he can get the full scoop. emoticon

By the way, I highly suspected someone would make the suggestion to do a more advanced/more specific(?) Internet search. I just did not know how that would be done.

I personally like the idea of making this a feature request. I have often wished to be able to see a longer list of recent posts. I also like the idea of making it board-specific too!

So, as a feature request, I personally would like to be able to see up to 50 or 100 of my most recent posts.

- - -

But, just to clarify, this discussion involves at least three aspects that I can see, and they all revolve around the idea of showing the most recent posts:

1. Make the feature an option where the member can see more of his/her own posts in the Miscellaneous info tab.

2. Enable the feature as another Premium Member enticement, where basic members can see a little more of their own posts than they can now, but premium members can seen quite a bit more.

BOTH of the first two points concern the individual members' posts on Runboard globally (on any and all message boards).

3. Make a similar feature that will allow users to see the most recent posts specifically on a specified message board.

In my opinion, it seems the third option might be something that could be incorporated into the other suggestion --> maybe have a list/check box menu to choose whether to view the global posts or to view only post made to a single board. But, my idea seems to include the need for code that would run a query to obtain the list of boards to which said user had posted.

- - -

Now, back to Warrior Monk's original question, it seems that returning a list of posts for a particular date range is out of the question, as Lesa points out. So, I would not wish to make the date range aspect a part of the feature request. I guess that the Internet search option is the way to go in this regard.

I like it. emoticon For boards, I was thinking about something like this if you click on someone's name at a board:

Image

The "Last posts" link could bring up a lightbox with that user's last posts at that board, with the option to look at their posts from all boards. I only put three in this example, but I think it should show 10 before the "More" link appears.

Image

If you click on a user's name anywhere other than a board, the "Last posts" option wouldn't be listed.

How does that sound?

Google has an advanced search form at http://www.google.com/advanced_search, but there are other ways to narrow a search that aren't on that form. For example, if you're looking for Thor's post on this board about our official policies and remember that "official policies" is in the subject line, you can search for intitle:"official policies" inurl:bakheva. Of course, you can use our simple search to search for something in the title of a post, but if you want to know how to put different banners in different forums and search Google for "different banners" inurl:brunboardextra, one of the results will be Different customizations in different forums, which includes banners. Since "banners" isn't in the subject line, our simple search would only find that if you search for different customizations, and only if you use the U.S. spelling because that's how it's spelled in the subject line.

Want to look up a definition? Try "define:" emoticon define:css
