IE9 is impossible! The earliest version I could find that supports emjoi images is Windows 7 with IE10...

Win 8.1
Chrome: shows hollow squares
Opera: works
IE11: works

iPad4 w/iOS7
Safari: works
Chrome: works
Opera: shows blank space where they should be

chromium it shows hollow boxes.
