Is there a way for this question??

After we set up a new forum, is there anyway that in this new forum our members can post and not show his username in only the one forum - to be anonymous.

The reason we would love to be able to keep our identity a secret only in the one forum. We do Secret Sisters programs about twice a year but we cannot figure a way to do this at Runboard. We could stay anonymous at one room at our last board.

Please let me if know if there could be possible???

Hi Joan,

No, not really. You could hide the names visually with CSS, but it would be too easy for people to get around that and see the names anyway. Plus, if any of your members are blind, CSS would have no effect on their aural screen readers, and they would hear those names by default.

Is Secret Sisters anything like Secret Santa? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the program of which you speak.

Maybe you could have people email you, and you could post their messages anonymously on their behalf? If one of your staff members has a website with php capabilities, I could help you set up an email form, so nobody would even have to know their email address.

I have an idea,

If you place this in your CSS

#ak_forum_3 .ak_msg_post_table, .ak_msg_post_signature_block, .postlistcontact {
display:none;
visibility:hidden;
}

Where you change the part in red to the number of the forum you are wanting to be anonymous then that part of the post won't appear at all. Note that they can still tell who made the last post though on the forums page, I have not gotten that far in my coding yet...

I have been told that aural screen readers will ignore a element that has both the display:none and visibility:hidden in the declaration. But LG is correct, if folks are honest and respect the intent then things are secret but it is kinda easy to "cheat" and discover who posted something hidden by the CSS.

As I said:

If you are absolutely certain that none of your members use an aural screen reader, and if you know that none of your would (or could) get around the CSS to see names, we can help you hide the names with CSS. I just want to stress that this method is not secure at all, and anyone could still figure out who posted what if they are determined and resourceful and/or knowledgeable enough.

Edit to add:

I have been told that aural screen readers will ignore a element that has both the display:none and visibility:hidden in the declaration.

Using visibility:hidden along with display:none can help with some of them, but not all of them. We should never rely on CSS for any kind of privacy or security.

Okay, I have all my coding done. What I came up with is for a whole forum, not just a topic.

I set it up as the very last forum on this board so you can see it and show it to your ladies and decide if that is what they and you want.

Re:

LG, Secret Sisters is a program at Esther and the ladies are given a name at Esther by drawing. The intent is that each lady should communicate with her Secret Sister for three months.

Some of our members do not understand when we try to tell them to just open a secret name at another mail server - such as Yahoo or Gmail.

The ladies can keep their names secret by email by a different email address and a unknown name. They still could not come to Esther and post unless they completed an application for Esther with another email address and name. That would really confuse the ladies.

We just wish there was a way to post in just one forum with out username showing.

Confused you? - confused me. lol

Hi Joan,

They could actually use the same email address for multiple Runboard accounts. Nobody could see that address except Thor (and I can see partial addresses), but neither of us would even try to match them up with the members, much less divulge that kind of information to anyone.

We could try to explain this concept to your members, if you want to try that route. emoticon

Wellll... what I came up with will keep honest people honest but that's all it can really do. I do not have access to your board though so explaining what I did might be a little difficult... If you decide to go for it let me know and I'll post my codes here so we can start...

One of the Esther ladies always tries to help me since that is not my skill. I will contact her tomorrow and she will understand better than me.

Thanks.
