Info: pay features almost there

I'm almost done with programming the pay-features code.

It's not really straightforward because I don't want to miss a bug, or leave room for one to happen, because the last thing I want to to receive email from angry users who think they have been ripped off because something didn't work after they paid a buck or two.

It also takes some legalese (I'm very moderately skilled here). Any help from professional lawyer(s) is welcome and will be of course retributed with a life premium membership. Just send feedback or a PM. I need a good Terms of Service and a real privacy policy. Both should be able to survive a direct nuclear impact. Otherwise I'll have to slap together my own texts.

All in all, with the pay features launch, there will be following changes:

1. You will have an interface in your control panel where you will be able to initiate/extend your membership by placing a call for 2 or 3 dollars (depending on your country), which cost will be simply reflected on your phone bill. Should work with 90% of phones. Some won't because they will have toll numbers blocked. Best will be to try with your cell phone, a phone of an (informed) friend, your office (after asking your boss' permission!), etc. In the future, possibility of doing it with a credit card or Paypal will be added. Keyword: "future," as in "not right now but some day for sure". One call (that should last less than one minute) will grant you 2 months (exactly 62 days, actually) of Premium membership to all boards hosted here, if you are a Global user, and to the board you are registered with if you are a Local user. Sucks to be a local user, but hey, you've been warned when signing up. In the future, something will also be done about that inconvenience.

2. Being a Premium member will entitle you to all pay-only features that will be available at launch, and the upcoming pay-only features that will be included in the Premium membership. There MIGHT be some features in the future that will require separate payment, but I can't think of any right now. Saying that just in case. I dunno... a feature that would call you on the phone or send an SMS to warn that a particular user PM'd you would require separate billing, most likely. Just speculating here.

At the launch, the pay-only features will be:

- Immunity to ads. You will not get any ads from the board system (you can still get ads if your board's administrator chosed to display some in his board's HTML layout - can't do anything about those) now and in the future.

- Optional invisibility. You will be able to trigger a switch in your control panel that will make you invisible in the Who's online list on the board's. Only exception are the Staff members (just me at this time) who will still see you. Rest of people, even board administrators, won't.

- Ability to define up to 15, or so, favorites. I just invented the number 15 right now, so it can be 14 or 25. Anyway, it will be more than right now.

That's it, for now.

Future pay-only features may include extensive online PM interface and other cool stuff.

Obviously, my goal is that you, dear users, get premium memberships. So the pay-only features will, hopefully, be worth it.

There is another important thing. I understand that if you run a board, you may want to just buy those pay-only features for the whole board, so your users don't have to worry about anything. This feature will be added in the future, but I can't say when just now. It is most likely a matter of several months.

I have a couple fun ideas (at least, I think they are fun) about premium memberships, and I'll be trying to implement them in the future.

You should be able to see the pay-only features online before the end of this week. Still trying to sort out minor technical details and that legal stuff.

I forgot one thing. At launch, another feature (free now) will be pay-only. It is the possibility of having 250k posts. Free accounts will have much less. I have warned about it when implementing the 250k posts way back then.

It is a purely technical thing, so don't lynch me, mkay? emoticon

No. But if I ever implement it, pay accounts will be immune to it.
