Call for tips: a good 3rd party subscription payment processor

I am clueless about payments on the Net. I've went all the way with Paypal implementing their API into akheva, etc, but today I've come to realize that Paypal isn't the way to do it.

I've tried subscribing to akheva and realized that Paypal requires a pain-in-the-ass process for the end user (validation, charging 1.95$ for no reason, etc). I can't accept this procedure because it's too much constraint on the user.

Do any of you have experience with 3rd party sale/subscription processor such as Paypal, but less painful? Well internationalized would be best, but I'd like to look at as many as possible. I realize that many of you guys have web sites, some of them are probably selling stuff. Please share your wisdom.

Me, wisdom, think again emoticon
I've only ever used PayPal, but I'll keep an eye out and ask a few people.

I don't know much about this, but still. Heres some company names. Thought it might help.

pppay
nochex
fastpay

I've only ever used nochex from buying things on ebay. Worked a charm.
