Re: Change: UTF8 for all - might mess with some posts
My board - which is in German - is experiencing problems, all the Umlaute are acting up.
They are fine in new or edited posts, but I would rather not go through everything and edit them. On the other hand I would not be surprised if there were no other boards in German, and unless there is a way to remidy that without going to a lot of trouble, I am prepared to do it the hard way.

Re: Change: UTF8 for all - might mess with some posts
No, its not voluntary. Its strange though. On The Advert and Graphics Galore the style width trick seems to have stopped working, but it still works on Spouzic.
I just checked my source codes and on The Advert & Graphics Galore, somehow a colon got changed to an equals sign...? I will correct it but I dont know why this should've happened.

Re: Change: UTF8 for all - might mess with some posts
I need to make sure I understand the Umlaute issue (that should be the same for all or most exotic characters). I have no way to write an Umlaute with my keyboard
Basicly, you say that all posts that were writen before the UTF8 patch are displaying the umlautes wrongly, while those written (or edited) after the patch are working ok?
At any rate, can I please have two links:
One to a topic (specify the post number please) with Umlautes not working (specify which word it should be in - I don't speak German),
One to a topic with Umlautes working properly. Also please specify the post number in the topic.
Danke shone.

That's correct.
This: http://com1.akheva.com/bschreiberlingeuntersich.fpublikation.t3
is one topic where I have changed nothing, and all Umlaute display wrongly. One example for a misspelled word is (I hope I can reproduce that): Zwischenh?ler - it should be Zwischenhändler, with the a-Umlaut. In edit mode it looks the same now, that is a change from my last post here.
That example is from the very first post, first line.
This:
http://com1.akheva.com/bschreiberlingeuntersich.fklappentext.t3 is a topic where I have edited the first two posts and left the last and third one with the mistakes as it was.
The Umlaut also displays wrongly in the topic name "Tagesgespräch" which should be "Tagesgespräch". This is exactly as it was when I first mentioned problems with the Umlaute.
Basically the characters I need are: ä ö ü Ä Ö Ü and ß. Would it help to list the ascii-codes for them?
Thank you very much for looking into this. Vielen Dank!

No need to list ascii codes.
I noticed that your Umlaute ("B" looking thing, right?), is displaying fine in your latest post here, did you enter it the same way you always used to enter it?

Re: Change: UTF8 for all - might mess with some posts
Yes, I can just type them on my keyboard, and they look fine here. The ß is a sharp s (we call it es-tset), but I just mixed it in with the Umlaute, because it is part of standard German.

Re: Change: UTF8 for all - might mess with some posts
I've done some work about the german characters (and all other non 7bit ascii) characters displaying. So far it's looking pretty good, although this time I'll go through extensive testing before patching it to the live servers.
A single post containing german, russian, english, japanese (two flavours of it), and vietnamese text was displaying properly in the test environment.
Should be a matter of few days before patching it live, depending on my patience.
