How many people would use?
I am making a code that should send you to a random thread within in the forum. This code is only shown within the forums of your board, it will not show on your board.
I have got the code to work very basically, but I am going to have to go through it manually and block it from all the links that are NOT thread types.. If you get what I am saying.. If even atleast 3 people want this code I will add it to my list of todos (to make it only to take you to a thread only link..)

I coded something so if you click on it, it takes you to the last post made on the forum. it didn't work out as there were to many bugs so I got rid of it. I say go for it.

Re: How many people would use?
Kriptonic, there isnt a way you could make a script that could show the most recent post topics in a table on a separate web page.
For example it would show:
Topic----------------Started By----------LastPost By
woo akheva-----------the return-------------thor
Posted on
07-17-2003 @ 06:11 PM
^but having lots of them..
If you still dont get what I mean, you can find the same kind of thing on sphereserver at the bottom of the main page.
I would much appreciate to know if it can be done.

Re: How many people would use?
I could not do this, because there is a common misconception with Javascript - it is a clientside language (which means it can't reach into the server database)
A server side language would be like php, and many other languages. I don't have access to servers here nor do I wish to have them.
In key : You must request this from thor.

Re: How many people would use?
Yus, I assumed as much.
But I thought there might still be some way that a clientside script could be written to gather data from outside the server. Kinda like a probe
Oh well, I knew I could'ent do it without access to the servers (and I possibly could'ent do it with access) but I wondered if you could, some of your scripts have been darn clever

Re: How many people would use?
Thanks for the kind words. Anyways though I probably could do it with proper access, but then that would ruin my fun of changing thing most though couldn't have been changed..
As for the probe, if it were that easy the language would be banned. That would be a hack tool noone could resist. lol. I could do loads with if it were like php.

Re: How many people would use?
That feature done in JS would put an insane load on akheva's servers. I'd rather do it server-side. If you can post a message in feature requests, I'll stick it to remember later.

Re: How many people would use?
Thor, it wouldn't put a load on the server if I pulled it from my own server, correct?
