Re: Upcoming major downtime (few hours)

It seems all of the new .com URLs have stopped working.

I am accessing my board as well as the support board now using the com5 and com1 URLs.

Looks like the new host is playing up already emoticon

It just came back up Thor, but for about a 45 minutes or so, all of the www.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail or www.runboard.com/bakheva URLs didn't work and the only way to access the boards was to use the old http://com5.runboard.com/bakheva...etc

What did it do? Blank page? No connection?

Yes, a blank page, I mean un-reachable URL you normally get when the web address is not working.

Hmmmm, I'm in the Central Timezone, United States, been on for about 2 hours now and did not notice anything.
Just thought "different areas" might be affected differently, thought the info might be handy. emoticon

I had a slow period around 12pm UK time, not sure how long it lasted as I went out. Now it seems ok to me. emoticon

Re: Upcoming major downtime (few hours)

Jalalski, it sounds like one of your ISP's servers had a glitch and sent you to the wrong (old) IP. It should sort itself out soon if it hasn't already, but at least you know to use the com# urls if it happens again. emoticon

Erika, yours sounds like a high traffic situation, which may also cause an internal server error from time to time for the next couple of days. Thor still needs to do a few more things connected with the move, and doesn't have all the servers back online yet.

For those of you who are online during the daily backups, those are still being done, but until this weekend, you may see a 'website cannot be reached' or similar message instead of the backup message.

Nope Lesa, I was trying to access my board from the correct/new address www.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail when I got the un-reachable explorer page, so I checked the main Runboard page (www.runboard.com) and got the same error, it was only when I tried to do something on my test board and accessed it through my bookmarks which still had the old URL format of com# that I realized that the old URLs were working and the new ones were not. In any case, this only lasted for about 40 minutes or so and by the time I took a shower and got back to my PC, it was all working again.

Since Thor switched to the new host, I didn't see any back-up outage at all. The boards are all active through-out the scheduled back-up time, but I didn't raise it as an issue thinking it was due to the host switchover, so Thor might not have enabled it as yet.

Yes, Jalalski. emoticon As far as ISP servers are concerned, www.runboard.com and com5.runboard.com are two completely different addresses. The same server could send people to the new IP when trying to access com5.runboard.com, but to the old IP when trying to access www.runboard.com.

This very thing happened to me on the night we switched, after most people were back to business as usual on RB. I could access anything on Runboard using the com# urls because those took me to the new IP, but still got the maintenance message when trying to use www because I was being routed to the old IP. It was my own DNS settings in my case, and once I reset that, everything was working fine again.

In your case, since you have been accessing Runboard just fine through www until today, it most certainly sounds like one of your ISP's servers has the old IP for www.runboard.com urls stuck in its cache, and you were being routed through that server for a while whenever you tried to access the www URLs.

Thor only had a few minutes to chat earlier, but said, "right now, when daily backups are done, there's no downtime page." One person did say a couple of days ago that there wasn't any downtime at all, so I can only guess that Thor will be starting them back up tonight, minus the regular message that normally shows during this time.
