O.K., I see now, we have to click on the "reply" to the post in the how to join section. I will put that in my directions for membership now.
Is there any way to do this differently by having a button to click on at the top of the left hand side bar?

Hi Had,
Yes, you can put a link in the sidebar to serve that purpose. You would have to make it go to a "New Topic" or "Add a Reply" link in a forum that is readable by non-members. Also note, though, that there's no way you can hide this link from members, and members will be taken to the post composition screen.
Another thing you can do (which might be better) is to use the "Hidden if no access" option in the "Arrange forums" section of your board's control panel, for forums that require membership in order to read. This can also relieve the frustration of trying to view various forums, only to find the "Sorry, no access" message, because any forum they can't access won't be visible from the main page.
