All I know about is ImageReady. You can choose a quality level. The highest level is 256 colors and 100% dithered (whatever that means). Photo quality images don't look good with anything less. The lower quality is OK with logos or things with solid colors.

On Gimp, you could use:
Filters > Animation > Optimize

I got it down to 57kb when I tried it just now on the last version you posted.

Re: Custom Runboard link help?

Well that's something at least because I would really like the finished product to have a file size at least as small as the current button-sized Runboard link (or as close as I can get at any rate). Here is my latest attempt, I used a blur and anti-aliasing on the background to smooth it some and a single shot of anti-aliasing on the running men so they would blend better with the background. I also took away one frame so the little guys didn't look like they were tripping when the animation started again. It's at 67.74kb now...

Your always sweet Erika but this is just my first fumbling attempts on animating a gif so if I can just get it to roughly the same quality level of the other Runboard links I'll be a real happy camper emoticon

Lesa, I don't really know what I am doing when I open Gimp but with the defaults I got this one at 61.7kb (but when I did the graininess comes back)...

Putting my new one next to the "official" Runboard link to see how they compare:

Hey Skokey,

I can see how this could get addicting emoticon It is like laying out a short movie one frame at a time. I thought I would retain more detail if I started with a larger image then re-sized the final results for each image but it didn't work out that way in the end.

To make tiny clear .gifs, it's best to build them pixel by pixel.

This is one to commemorate an incident in my wild youth. We would throw a bottle with an overhand hook shot and try to hit street signs. It was a very long time ago and I don't do it or advocate it anymore.Image

Here's a few more of my tiny creations:

These will mess with your eyes. They are wall to wall tiled animations. Click the top left corner to go to the next one.

Those were cool (and you were correct, a couple of them got me dizzy) emoticon You do all that and still say you are not a pro? They show me I have a long way to go to get decent at this...

I didn't make those wild tiled ones on that web site. I don't have the 3D software for that.
