How to post a video?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but one of my users wants to use the img tags to post a video, so that it appears in the message text box when "submit new topic" is clicked, the same way it works for images.

Is that possible? Is there another tag I should use?

Hi joydakiss,

You mean like a clickable image? Like what I have showing below?

Image
Image
The way you do this is by "nesting" bb codes.

Click on the "link" button and type in the home url where the movie is located. In the first example that would be:

http://www.moviecodec.com While in the second example that would be:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQviWPb8hdE

When you click ok for the url the next box shows up asking for the text. Instead of text though you type in the bb image code location for the picture you want to be clickable.

In the first example that would be:
 [ img ]http://www.moviecodec.com/images/avatars/1.gif[/img]
notice the url is enclosed with the img codes.

While in the second example that would be:

[ img ]http://img.youtube.com/vi/CQviWPb8hdE/2.jpg[/img]
again notice that the url is enclosed with the img tags.

Hope that explains it but if you need more help just ask emoticon

No, you cannot post videos directly into posts, only links like PR mentioned

I think it would be cool if we could do a direct embed but this way at least gives a clickable image linked directly to the file. It's the best I could come up with with the resources currently available...

Re: How to post a video?

It's bad enough when my members post links to YouTube videos that take an hour to load on my dialup, and having them embedded into posts would make it a lot harder to keep up with everything that's being posted.

I visit a board elsewhere from time to time that has this capability, and as soon as I see a video embedded into one of the posts, I back out of there immediately.

I like thumbnails much better, and if embedding videos ever does become a feature, I would want admins to be able to disable it.

I like the idea of having this as a board owner (or admin) option for the board. The ability to include such a option is what I feel would be another major plus for RunBoard.
