I don't blame you, I think if it were me, I'd delete that account AND make a new password, for every site I have!

Re: Threatening Emails

I would change the password (and secret question, if there is one) for that email account and any online account that's connected with it.

Jox, do you remember back at ezboard, how someone had their account hacked into more than once by the James Bond troll? Under the circumstances, I think it was his email account that was hacked into, not his ezboard account directly, and the hacker was using that email access for password retrievals.

Re: Threatening Emails

Some of the trolls were trusted members that 'helped' other members with making changes to their accounts by having them share their passwords with them.

At least one board owner and Admin of many other boards was a common-law spouse with the French troll, who may have also been the Bond troll.

Who knows, some members may have also been tricked into sharing their email passwords & secret question answers as well.

Re: Threatening Emails

A member of one of the boards tried to get me to enter my username and password into a web form, claiming it would check to see if my account had been compromised. Instead of typing in my credentials, I used that form to send a message to the attempted hacker, basically telling her where to shove it, and the form returned a message saying my "account" hadn't been compromised.

That's funny. If this thing could check to see if an account had been compromised, it should have been able to check and see if the "account" actually existed or not.

Later, this person claimed that her account had been hacked, and the person who sent me the link to that form wasn't her. I have never believed that claim, and think she made it up because she realized I was wise to her phishing attempt.

Re: Threatening Emails

Yeah. I felt bad for Mary, that the trolls got her to hand over Talking Xena. IIRC, she has it back now. I've learned you really have to be careful with even the 'trusted' members. I stopped getting into the middle of flame wars because a lot of times it turned out to be the same people on both sides. I really hate all that time I spent on troll hunting and engaging with them, but on the other hand I love the experience it gave me, and the knowledge I have now. I used to lurk at TX & XOC every now and again just to see if the BS was still going on, but now that it's Tapatalk, I haven't even bothered in ages. Moving to Proboards was the best decision.

I got this today:

Hello!

I'm is very good programmer, known in darkweb as robinson12.
I hacked this mailbox more than six months ago,
through it I infected your operating system with a virus (trojan) created by me and have been spying for you a very long time.

I understand it is hard to believe, but you can check it yourself.
I'm sent this e-mail from your account. Try it yourself.

Even if you changed the password after that - it does not matter, my virus intercepted all the caching data on your computer
and automatically saved access for me.

I have access to all your accounts, social networks, email, browsing history.
Accordingly, I have the data of all your contacts, files from your computer, photos and videos.

I was most struck by the intimate content sites that you occasionally visit.
You have a very wild imagination, I tell you!

During your pastime and entertainment there, I took screenshot through the camera of your device, synchronizing with what you are watching.
Oh my god! You are so funny and excited!

I think that you do not want all your contacts to get these files, right?
If you are of the same opinion, then I think that $277 is quite a fair price to destroy the dirt I created.

Send the above amount on my BTC wallet (bitcoin): <snipped>
As soon as the above amount is received, I guarantee that the data will be deleted, I do not need it.

Otherwise, these files and history of visiting sites will get all your contacts from your device.
Also, I'll send to everyone your contact access to your email and access logs, I have carefully saved it!

Since reading this letter you have 48 hours!
After your reading this message, I'll receive an automatic notification that you have seen the letter.

I hope I taught you a good lesson.
Do not be so nonchalant, please visit only to proven resources, and don't enter your passwords anywhere!
Good luck!

I have the other email saved in a document, and I just sent both contents to my internet/email provider to see if they can block these types of emails.

Have you tried looking at the full header of the email? That tends to reveal much more.

Re: Threatening Emails

The email gets rerouted to an online spam catcher system other than my email account, and I don't get much header info there. I don't want to release it to download onto my computer in case I accidentally open up a virus.
