Earlier today I tried to sign on with one of my sock puppet names, Miss Grundy, and the board wouldn't recognize it. Then I tried to establish that as a new member and it told me the name was already taken. (Yes, you idiot! It's taken by me!) I gave up.
I PMed your 'Miss Grundy' account because you mentioned you couldn't get into it. What might have helped you get into your account, might have been used to help your member get into theirs.

A little bit ago a long-time member e-mailed to ask me to check on his posting name. I did, and e-mailed it back to him. He responded that the board won't take it.
Has there been a housecleaning to remove little-used names?

I didn't PM this member because you didn't post a link to their profile page. In helping you figure out how to get into your account, I could also help this member get into theirs.

When you make a post for a member, why not have that member reply to it so that we can help that person directly, instead of you being a go-between? *shrugs* It would benefit all parties involved.

All my socks have magically reappeared as of this morning. I'll ask my friend if he can now get in, now that it's too late for him to participate in our election results thread.
Good to hear. I hope your member is now able to log in as well.

Thanks.
And, you are most welcome. Sorry we couldn't do anything more than offer suggestions and possible ideas of the underlying cause.

Don't answer that. It just occurred to me that a member who can't log in can't post in a thread you have made for them. My bad.
[Edit]
Unless they create a new account so that we can work with them on their other one.

Thank you. I was just about to share my frustration over that one.
It reminds me of when my computer goes down and I call Comcast. While I'm on hold the robo-voice tells me I can just log on to Comcast's help department.
My computer is down, you idiot!

Re: Have some members been deleted?
Lol. I remember running the Windows troubleshooter back in my dialup days, when my computer wouldn't connect to the internet. When the troubleshooter couldn't detect the issue, it gave me the option to check online for a solution.
I am also reminded of countless stories I have read on a website called, "Not Always Right," where a tech makes a mistake like this one:
quote: (One day, none of our emails seems to be sending. We’ve lost the connection on the modem, and can’t reconnect. I check the phone lines and everything seems fine, so I phone the London IT Helpdesk.)
Tech: “Yeah, the email system went down overnight. We’re trying to fix it, but we need to recall the backup tapes, so it’ll be at least a few hours before anything is back online.”
Me: “Okay, no worries. I’ll let you go; you’re probably really busy.”
Tech: “Yeah, everyone keeps phoning us to ask why email isn’t working. Did you not get the alert we sent out?”
Me: “The alert that goes via email?”
(A pause. I can almost hear the cogs whirring in the young man’s head.)
Tech: “Oh, my God. That was dumb, wasn’t it? We’ll put an alert up on the intranet page!”
Me: “Good idea.”
(As I hung up, I heard him shouting to his boss, “Why did we email the bloody alert?!”)
