Pop-ups
I post on Case42's "Best Board on the Net". In the last few weeks random words in most posts have been showing up randomly as links highlighted in blue. If you click them you get an advertisment. Do you know anything about this? Can you make it stop doing this?

Re: Pop-ups
Hi crogin,
It isn't Runboard serving those ads. It's something on your machine, whether it came bundled with a program you downloaded around that time, or a website you visited. Running a spyware scan should hopefully get rid of it.

Re: Pop-ups
The thing doing that is a couponer extension for your browser and/or search engine browser add-on. If you are like me you didn't ask for it, it was attached to a search engine toolbar that came with your latest browser upgrade (FF and Chrome were spammed with it). You have to actually remove the thing both from your browser and registry (which is a royal pain). I used CCleaner to finally get rid of the registry traces but any good registry cleaner can do the job...

Re: Pop-ups
Hi germanshepherd,
I responded in the other topic you created, but in short, those links aren't coming from us. You need to scan your computer for malware.

Re: Pop-ups
I believe you are seeing them on our site, but they are not coming from our site. There's a big difference.
You can find more information at this link, in my reply to your other post.

Re: Pop-ups
Lesigner girl is correct, germanshepherd. I had the same problem on my own site many years ago. The pop ups came from a "clock app" that I downloaded and thought cool on my site.
Once they solved that...I changed to one that the Runboard staff found was safe, I never had any problems with unwanted links, in almost 8 years here.

Re:
Hi All,
was looking for an answer to this. I have been getting some of my peeps lately saying the same thing, and it only happens when they come over to runboard. that's what I did. I downloaded some new program, and I was being extra carefully not to put on my pc peek a boos, and sure enough, some how they got me, like 5 extra junk scams loaded with the program. but why doesn't spyware / addware / malware anti virus's pick them up?? Is it because they are within the program? then they blind side you with this stuff?? Anyway, so I got to tell my peeps again that it's something on their side not runboard. yeah right, that's like, why did sally fall off the swing??
