posticon "Family" Boards

I never say this, particularily because it's illogical and pointless. But... I secretly think that all "family" boards (for example, "no profanity because this is a family board") are stuck-up and judgemental. Many times, this probably isn't true. But there we go.

We've got a rule that asks our members to try to keep the profanity down and use good judgement on our board. We'd like to keep it PG-13, since the nature of our board draws some younger members and we don't want it inundated with complaints of parents pissing and moaning about what some of our members might say if we let everyone go unchecked. I wish it didn't have to be that way myself, but some people will get out of hand and ruin it for everyone if we don't state it up front.

True, you have some wild ones that show up at your board that probably can be a challenge to keep in line. That Lemur character, for one, and that guy she hangs out with all the time. emoticon emoticon

I have had a lot of boards over the years, and I have found that by imposing no rules at all, people behave in a completely reasonable manner the vast majority of the time. If there are rules, certain people feel compelled to bend and break them. Human nature, I guess.

...Or a netizen type morale...People generally aren't bad...But there's the few bad apples out there that insist on typing in all caps while doing their horribly incoherent banter about how someone has sexual encounters with their sister...

The problem as I see it isn't the profanity and content of boards ( Even though a lot of 'em should be shot ) But the parents...They should monitor their children's activities and explain certain content...Rather than just plop them in front of a TV ( Or computer ) to amuse themselves while the parents do their own thing...

I think of my board as a family board, but I don't allow any sexual stuff and harassment to go on. I don't think I'm stuck up. emoticon

I found this to be true also.
It's as if they have to test your limits.
