Re: LoTR - Return of the King
Took my boys yesterday please do not make me sit through it again. They could have easily trimmed an hour out of the movie. When Frodo got to the mountain thing all I could think was they better be taking the elevator because I am not waiting another hour for them to climb that to.
I guess it was oK but those are not generally my type of movies.

They cut a bit of the book out. There was a big fight at the end with Saruman. It's a shame it wasn't included, but would probably of made the film 5+ hours long.
I believe the filmmakers decided to leave out the scouring of the Shire. Understandable, imo, as it would not work as an ending in a film.

Re: LoTR - Return of the King
Watched it, wasn't all that impressed actually.
The predecessors were far superior.
One of the main things wrong with this film was that everything that happened was explained before it happened and the exactly what was explain happened exactly as was explained killing any kind of tension and suprise. In all it ended up being quite boring. It was also all a little sentimental (they seemed to spend alot of time lingering with hobbits looking into each others eyes as if they were about to make-out, strangly enough it never looked as if Ian McKellen was about to make out with another bloke.) Another thing is, why didn't Gandalf use his magic! He had his staff but he never bloody used it apart from that once when he chased of the nazgul. He basically used it as a club. He should have been there during the battle sending off bolts of lightning from the battlements and he should have been using magic as the orc got nearer too him until eventually he would be cutting up one orc and using magic on another, that'd be kickass.

Re: LoTR - Return of the King
Are you sure you went to see the 2003 Return of the King and not the 1978 one ?

Re: LoTR - Return of the King
Well I started watching it in 1978 and it finally ended in 2003 Not really I am positive. Did you not notice as they gazed into each others eyes many times???

Re: LoTR - Return of the King

They spent alot of time in each others company.....
*Spoiler*
I have no clue as to why Bilbo, Frodo, and Gandalf, went on the elf boat at the end....
Can any shine some light on the subject?

Re: LoTR - Return of the King
2003 one
None of my mates got the ending either, heres my views on it;
Frodo left because he couldn't except life in the shire anymore, he had been changed by his journey.
Bilbo left because he was going to die and frodo wanted to be with him.
Gandalf left because he had done all he could do, his mission thingy was over.
The elf people left to give man-kind a chance to rule.
You have to remember that middle earth is only one part of their planet, like a continent or a country. They all left for another continent or country.
As an example of what I meant when I said "One of the main things wrong with this film was that everything that happened was explained before it happened and the exactly what was explain happened exactly as was explained killing any kind of tension and suprise. In all it ended up being quite boring."
Gollum (the one who keeps saying "my precious") explained that he was going to take frodo and sam to shelob (the big spider) to kill them and then, shock horror, he did exactly what he said he was going to. It would have been much better if they didn't tell you what they were going to do so then you would be suprised when it happened. They even told you that the big elephant things were coming!

Re: LoTR - Return of the King
lol, no problem.
It wouldn't have been so bad if they told you what wasn't going to happen and then something a bit different happened.
That would be quite good.
