I agree this should be an option.

Re: Being able to delete ones own posts

If somebody doesn't do anything wrong and gets banned just because the admin is a jerk, then people will see that by reading their posts on the board, and they should have nothing to worry about.

If the person was rightfully banned, their posts should stay up there so people will know why they were banned, and people will know the admin made the right choice to ban them.

I know but 'banned user' shows up on search engines too. Either to get rid of the 'banned user' flag or make banning a user automatically remove all their posts.

Re: Being able to delete ones own posts

As a board owner, I wouldn't want a banned user's posts deleted automatically for reasons stated above; and if this feature were enabled, I would hope board owners would have a choice about whether or not to enable it on their board.

Obviously, whether or not a banned person's posts get deleted would still be out of the banned person's hands if board owners had the power to make that decision, so they would still have to rely on the benevolence of the board owner, and board owners already have the ability to change the banned user title or leave it out completely.

Automatically deleting banned users posts without giving board owners a choice in the matter would be very unfair to board owners, and very beneficial to trouble makers who know their posts will be deleted if they're banned. They could go to a board and create 50 new spam threads, an admin shows up and bans them, and POOF! There goes the evidence for why they were banned, they go crying to their friends about how they were wrongfully banned, and the board owner looks like a tyrant.

Automatically deleting a banned user's posts also makes it impossible for Runboard staff to know the situation if that user becomes an issue in the future.

As far deleting your own posts, just edit them and take out whatever you don't want it to say.

Thanks for bringing that up, Addi! emoticon

Funny that didn't cross my mind, since I've had to report posts before. But that was with a different board provider, whose head of security caused more trouble than the person I was reporting. Not only that, but he didn't seem to know the first thing about how IPs work. emoticon

But I know the staff at Runboard would handle things much better than the guy they had working for them at that other provider, and I agree that certain posts should be kept for evidence. This is why I've always made it a policy to move particularly nasty threads into a private forum, instead of deleting them.

Re: Being able to delete ones own posts

Late adding to this discussion but I think this would be a nice Administrator tool, switcheable on or off. I think I have a group of members on my board (it being not open to the general public) who could be trusted with the responsibility of deleting their own posts and it would be nice to be able to extend that trust to them.

If my faith was misplaced I would then have the option of taking back charge of deletions.

The present position does rather feel as if they are being treated like children who have to apply to 'daddy' to get a post removed.

Re: Being able to delete ones own posts

I would like this to be a switchable feature. RunBoards major claim to fame is giving the board owner options. Once you make that the main selling point in your adverts it is very strange to suddenly run into limitations that are not present on other forum providers. So make it a switchable option, board owners that want it will switch it on, those that don't will leave it off.

I like it to be switchable too ~~~ I'd also like to be able to turn off the edit feature or at least put a time limit(say 24 hrs.),for clearing up typos or errors. Or if possible have the original post put in a Box like the 'Quote Box' then the editted version shows below it.
