Re: Change: new post notification

To be more specific, it isnt just the high volume of our emails. If a user didnt know how to stop the notifications, instead of rifling through their control panel to find the setting and turn it off, they would often use their email accounts to mark the notifications as spam. After a certain number of spam flags, most email providers start filtering mail from the domain where the 'spam' is coming from. This has affected our ability to reach people with account activiation type emails.

I have far more faith in those who want to subscribe to topics being able to add it again than I do in people realizing that marking us as spam is bad for us. I know it happens, Im one of those people. I dont do it to runboard, but I do it to telecharge emails all the time.

Just curious why it cannot be checked at all in the control panel anymore? I liked the notifications and so did the users on my board. It's not the end of the world, but I wonder why we can no longer select it as an option in control panel? The option is still listed on the control panel, but obviously the change cannot be saved.

Runboard needed to reduce the numbers of email sent out drastically, because some big email providers started blocking Runboard mail completely (AOL, for example). This goes especially for the number of emails routinely sent to the spam folder of many users - which happened to a lot of notification emails, unfortunately.

That's why the option has been disabled, and all subscriptions were discontinued at one point in time.

Why can't the option be turned on AT ALL anymore?

I really liked this feature because I didn't have to check it every time I posted (like right now).

The reasons are explained in his first post. The systems were blocking the email notifications and it was just wasting space. There were too many problems with it so it can no longer be turned on because of it.

Exactly - some people (and I can understand that) found it quicker to just flag their notifications as spam instead of going through the options and disabling it.

The result is that some ISP's out there consider RB as a spam house - which it never was.

I had to choose the lesser of two evils.
