Re: Free credits for your board through user upgrade referral

Yes we did. Thanks Lesa emoticon

I would like to make the following suggestion to Thor if I may.

I went through the process of upgrading to premium on behalf of one of the members of my board (using their username and password) as they didn't have PayPal access.

When I clicked on the referral link for my board, it was a bit unclear as to what the next step should be apart from a line stating to go back to my control panel to complete the upgrade.

I think this is where the confusion is coming from, as members see this message and accidentally close the browser and go to their control panel through a new browser window, therefore not using the referral link.

I suggest that the text link which says "go back to your control panel" is replaced with a button to make it clearer for users that they're meant to click on it and not close the window.

I think this would reduce the confusion.

The other suggestion is to have the username included in the email notification the board admin gets when a user completes the upgrade, so we know who they are and thank them for it emoticon

It shouldn't matter, according to what Rimmer said |offset=10#post21205]here:

quote:

Through the magic of programming, when anyone clicks the 'Upgrade My Account' link, a record of that is kept on their account. If they upgrade to Premium, a check is made to see at which board they last clicked the 'Upgrade My Account' link. That board then gets 10,000 views credited to it when the user upgrade is confirmed.

Emphasis mine. I always took this to mean that the information gets stored in the database, just as the "last visited" links in one's profile are stored in the database. Presumably, based on this information, someone should be able to click on the "Upgrade My Account" link, then log out of Runboard, reboot their computer, get back online, log back in to Runboard, and then upgrade their account, and the appropriate board should still get the credits.

I do agree that the process can be confusing, though. To anyone who doesn't understand how it works (which I'm sure would be most people), it wouldn't make sense that clicking on the link only results in a message to go to their control panel, which the person probably would have done anyway if they hadn't been told to click on that Upgrade link specifically.

Hi Lesa,

That's what I thought should happen as well, but I don't think it's happening as it was the case with Rich (Basshead) who closed the page and went to his control panel to complete the upgrade and Runboard didn't register that as a referral for some reason.

Hi Lesa,

It happened again with another member of my board who upgraded through his control panel (instead os using the referral link) and we didn't seem to have got the credits for it (username Revhead Kev) and he posted in that same thread on my board.

Are you sure your board didn't get the credits this time, Jalal? It's currently showing 46612 credits, but I can't remember if you had 30000+ after Basshead or 40000+.

I went ahead and added the credits, regardless. With the kind of support you have from your membership via upgrades, it's likely that one or two may have gone unreported anyway. emoticon

Thanks Lesa. I think it went up to 40,000+ after Basshead's upgrade, but with the amount of traffic our board is getting am loosing track of the page view credits anyway emoticon Am not sure if the rest of the guys are reporting their upgrades in that thread on our forum as the last 3 members did. In any case, am happy that you fixed it anyway. Much appreciated.

Hi Lesa,

It happened again whereby a new member of my board has upgraded his account to "premium" today (bob002) and we didn't get the credits nor was I notified of his upgrade by email.

You can see his post %7Coffset=30]HERE confirming his upgrade.
