I disabled all ads on all boards on all platforms, etc.

For the time being.

I'll sort through this mess when I get the chance.

Until then, RB is free.

Maybe we can add a donate button?

For those people who are still grateful to use Runboard?

Are there no other really good ads services?

I don't know about other countries, but here in the US you can gift someone a limited amount of money that is tax free. And that isn't limited to how many people can gift you that amount. So, both parents can gift their child the same amount, doubling the amount received.

So, I'm wondering if instead of using, 'donate,' use 'gift' instead so that the money is tax free. *shrugs* I was thinking if I ever set up a website and had a payment button set up, I'd word it as gift, and not donate. emoticon

The annual exclusion applies to gifts to each donee. In other words, if you give each of your children $11,000 in 2002-2005, $12,000 in 2006-2008, $13,000 in 2009-2012 and $14,000 on or after January 1, 2013, the annual exclusion applies to each gift. The annual exclusion for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 is $14,000.

I think a donation is the same as a gift.

quote:

Who pays the gift tax?

The donor is generally responsible for paying the gift tax. Under special arrangements the donee may agree to pay the tax instead. Please visit with your tax professional if you are considering this type of arrangement.

What is considered a gift?

Any transfer to an individual, either directly or indirectly, where full consideration (measured in money or money's worth) is not received in return.

And, no. There are no other good ad services that we can find, and I have searched high and low. The options are so bad that I once suggested we try to sell our own ads, but it would pretty much require a paid team to maintain it, so it wouldn't really be worth it at this time.

You would think there would be a lot of really good ads services out there.

And you only have to pay a gift tax if the gift amount goes over the tax-free gift limit. So, as long as no one donated/gifted more than the tax-free amount, no taxes need be paid. And this is per person, not per total amount of donations/gifts. So each donation/gift could be, $14,000 and as long as it didn't go over that amount all would be well.

  $14,000 gift/donation - Person 1
  $14,000 gift/donation - Person 2
  $14,000 gift/donation - Person 3
  $14,000 gift/donation - Person 4
  $14,000 gift/donation - Person 5
$56,000 <---- Tax Free (As long as each $14,000 gift/donation isn't from the same person.)

(So, US family members/friends can gift money to US family members/friends to help them out and not add to their taxes. -- Which is why I have gone into more detail. -- I don't know how it will affect social security, child support, welfare, etc. You'll need to check into that yourself.)

BTW: If the upgrade ever includes the ability for boards to have more than one skin that can be switched between, Runboard could charge boards for the ability to have a number of skins.

2 skins = Free
4 skins = $??
6 skins = $??
etc.

Maybe also have different character limit sets in the CSS/HTML/Language Set/etc. Board owners can pay to increase the number of characters used in those areas.
