Thanks for the explanation, Joxcenia.

So far I'm getting the impression that the stuff that's supposed to work on my board, but doesn't, requires me to do something to work around it. I'm old and a technopeasant and I'm not gonna do it. The board gods should fix it.

But I do appreciate the help. Honest!

I thought you were wanting to have a profanity filter and that was why you asked about it. Pardon me for offering a way to have one. I guess that other with playing around with it, I never even thought about it before. I think everyone on my board has it turned off and the couple words that I set up alternates for are never used.

You are most welcome. As long as every member has their own personal filter turned off there should be no problem. It's the lurkers that will get the switched out version.

Sorry, Susa, I must have explained it badly. The Board Management section, in the Miscellaneous settings, makes it look like the profanity filter is always on unless I uncheck the handy box right there that will turn it off. I've done that several times and it does nothing. So why have that box if it does nothing?

I don't know if you saw my explanation, so here it is again:

Based on the wording ("currently") and the fact that it's there in the first place, it looks like Thor probably intended to add that option at that point.

I'm sorry if the wording, "currently has no effect - is always on, can be overridden in user's misc options" that appears next to the checkbox isn't clear. Can you think of a way for us to re-word that, so other people won't keep trying it like you did?

There is no need for anyone to work around it. The option to see profanity is there for anyone who wants to see it. All they have to do is enable it for themselves one time, and then they will always see it unless they change their mind and change it back later.

Your members win, because they get to make the choice for themselves. emoticon
