Post Display Hierarchy idea

]Long ago there was a new topic identity marker suggested called "announcements." The idea was that it would always be the first topic shown in the topic list no matter what the date of the "announcement" was.

I would like to suggest that "closed" topics should be the second group of topics. Always displayed after the "announcements" and always before topics which are merely "sticky."

You mean if they are both closed and stickied, right? I would definitely not want every closed topic to be shown before live topics.

Absolutely! Example:

Custom titles Page: 1 2 3 ... 48 49 Sticky topic
Official policies - what is and what isn't allowed on Runboard Page: 1 2 3 ... 5 6 Sticky topic
ABOUT THIS FORUM - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING Topic closed, Sticky topic

Would become:

ABOUT THIS FORUM - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING Topic closed, Sticky topic
Custom titles Page: 1 2 3 ... 48 49 Sticky topic
Official policies - what is and what isn't allowed on Runboard Page: 1 2 3 ... 5 6 Sticky topic

The suggested "Announcement" post would automatically go at the top of the list.

I would also suggest that a "closed topic" which is NOT sticky would be treated like a regular post by date.

How does this differ from the 'super sticky' request that has been made in the past, and/or where it would it rank with a 'super sticky' post, if we were to implement both suggestions?

The super sticky request and the announcement request would be an addition to the existing structure.

My idea is just using the structure that already exists with a different sorting routine on the post order. It gives more functionality with less effort on the coding side since the functions are already in existence.

Are you sure the functions are already in existence?

Even if they are, how do you think this meshes with the fact that there won't be any new major features unless/until after the boards are given a complete overhaul?

I am not a programmer but the labels exist and some type of sort condition routine has to exist or the sticky posts wouldn't go to the top at all. This wouldn't, in my mind, be a major anything, more of a tweak on things which already exist with the idea of confirming the function ideas behind the original code. Thor and You are great but even great people might have trouble remembering the thinking behind codes written so long ago that it is older than some of our newest members!

You may not be a programmer, but can you create a simple flowchart that only includes functions that we can logically deduce to currently exist?
