No. The only ways to make an image appear in a post is to either edit the post itself or use CSS.

Maybe, if your image was actually a "3rd party image randomizer php file" though I have never been tempted to try that. CSS can do some amazing things but the ability to randomly pick is not one that I am aware of. You could use conditional statements to place a specified image in place depending of which browser or device is used and those images could be different for each condition.

That would show a random image, not put it in a random post.

True enough, I was thinking that either random image or an image based on the user's browser inside a post but my imagination has not conceived of a way to put images into random posts (which is actually a good thing). emoticon

I could create a php-powered, remotely-hosted style sheet for each board to display an image in a random post, but I don't think it would have the desired result.

Okay. I have two ideas:

1) Create your posts now, and edit them when the time comes. Since there's no way to know when a post has been edited, you would be able to get it done secretly.

2) Use the same name for two different images. Post an image with, say, "[sign in to see URL]" ... later on delete/move that image and add a new image that will have the same link/URL as the first image.

The second one has gotten nude images past inspection many times. Lesa had problems with members hotlinking, and the website owners got their revenge on the abuser.

Brilliant idea, Jox! You could use a 1×1px transparent gif for the first image. emoticon

If you're going with a transparent image, instead of deleting/moving the image, simply change it's name to the next image you want to swap.

It might also be helpful to have people clear their cache at the beginning of each scavenger hunt, to make sure their browsers aren't displaying the transparent gif after you upload the new image. If you plan on displaying the image in your announcement thread, you can simply tell people to hard-refresh on the announcement page where the image appears.
