Re: Pages Not Read
Yeah. It's even worse when you have an obsessive thing where you have to read everything new.
No, I obviously don't do that... I'm just guessing

quote: Yeah. I really do miss that feature. Though when I first joined ezBoards it got on my nerves. When I wasn't an admin. Though, it was nice sometimes to catch what Gabbin, Phalon and the others liked to slip in just to see if anyone would notice.
Do you think it would be better to only show notifications of edits to staff?

I think it would depend on the members. The O2ers loved to edit their posts and wait and see who would notice. IIRC, it was a game they started on the Oxygen Xena Board.
Might be wise to have the option for Staff Only, or Staff & Members ... or give members the option to turn it off. *shrugs*

Re:
Ohhhhhh........I don't like to see edits at all. I even have my board set to not show them, unless I highlight the area in the post. So many of them are to add a letter to a word or to correct grammar and then there is that edited message all over the place.
Yes, to staff only and be able to shut the feature off and on.

Re: Pages Not Read
So, I basically see two options here:
1) An option for admins to allow users to choose whether to see the notifications, and
2) an option for users to enable notifications for themselves.
The first one would be a board setting, where admins can allow it:
for everyone,
for staff only,
or for no one.
The second one would be a user setting, where users could choose to see them:
at every board they visit, if allowed by the admin,
only at boards where they are staff,
or not at all.
If a user has it enabled and is at a board where they're allowed to see it, they'll see it.

Re: Pages Not Read
I like that. What about setting it up so that members can't edit after, say, 3 days? Maybe have options where the owner/admin can turn off or set a limit on the ability for members to edit. And maybe even have an option to turn it off or set a limit on the ability for staff members to edit as well. *shrugs*
Would it be too hard to have it set up on an individual basis? That way if the member has a legitimate reason to edit a post, they can be given the ability on a temporary basis?

Re:
I edit my posts constantly because I find where I left out a comma, or added a letter to a word or left a letter out. I could not handle not being able to fix those things. I may see a post from a year ago, where I find a typo and I need to fix it. Changing content is a different thing, I agree, but how often does that happen. That being said, I did have a member last summer who changed the content on her post and I anticipated that she might and I made a screenshot of her post before she did it. Even if you know a person edited their post, how would you know what they changed, unless you had a copy of it. I don't want a time limit anywhere.

Re: Pages Not Read
Jox, although notifications of edited posts are somewhat related to the topic of this thread, your suggestions for actual editing options would be more appropriate for this topic.
Susa, I've been guilty of finding a typo days after making my post, and editing it to fix the typo. I have also taken screen shots of some people's posts when their behavior suggests that they might edit it to change the content, or edit everything out of it completely. Perhaps we should start a new topic about keeping a post history, at least for a limited time.
Edited to remove a redundant word.

Re: Pages Not Read
Susa: That's why I said to have the option to turn it off and on, and to be able to set your own limit. Plus let the owner have the ability to make all the changes they want.
Lesa: Okay. I'll take a look.
