Stop Spying On Me!

I am getting comfortable with Windows 10 but one thing I always dislike is being treated like someone who can not be trusted. That is what I have felt like ever since Windows 10 was installed on my new computer. Windows 10 tracks a huge number of things, most of them under the promise that the data is anonymous which sounds like they care but then there is the key-logger which tracks every keystroke made (and if they log it that means they can recreate everything I type). Not good for a number of reasons when dealing with "intellectual property" protection. My only option seemed to be an off-the-grid computer that would remain private only as long as I never ever used said computer on any network.

Now I think I found a compromise that I can live with. It is a small, freeware proggy that just turns off most of the privacy invasion settings. The proggy doesn't even need to be installed, it runs, does its thing, stops, and then exits. Easy-peasy emoticon

The proggy is called O&O ShutUp10 and if I was doing a software review I would give it 5 stars. It won't stop everything but it does give me the feeling that I can control my online privacy at least a little bit.

That does sound like a good program!

I do not have Windows 10, yet. Someday, when I get a new computer, I will get it. I have Windows 7 Pro.

You don't need a special program to turn off keylogging and other options that might be privacy concerns in Windows 10.

Just follow these steps:

   • Press the Windows key on your keyboard
   • Type in 'settings' without the quotes
   • Hit the 'enter' key or click on 'Settings'
   • Click on the padlock icon that says 'privacy'
   • Turn every switch to 'off'
   • Close that window

Done!

Perhaps you don't need a special proggy but I do like small freeware proggy that does it for you with one click. emoticon

My plan is to shift to Linux once Win7 is no longer supported.

How many clicks did it take you to download and install the program, and how long did it take to download and install? It takes less than a minute to disable it through Window's settings.

This program does not install itself and at 198kb the download time was virtually nonexistent. emoticon

Like I said, it runs then exits. The proggy disables only those settings that the company felt were safe by default though there is an option that allows you to review all the settings and make your own decisions. I compared it to Spybot's Beacon program and decided O&O ShutUp10 was a better choice for those unfamiliar with how the Windows 10 Privacy settings work.

If someone went through all that trouble to create a program to disable features that are already so easy to disable, I can't help but wonder what this third party might be installing on your computer without your knowledge or consent.
