Re: Bookstore vs Internet

Don't get me wrong, I love the B&M stores primarily because I can browse hundreds of books in a very short period of time. I love being able to speak with people in areas that I am browsing around in. Special orders really do need to be improved, though. Easy fix, IMHO, give the shopper the option of having the order to be shipped to the customers home. That may be an option but it wasn't mentioned or offered to me.

UPDATE!!!! - The store called me tonight and told me they now have the book in stock with a copy set aside for me. That is cool but I have to wonder what happened to the quoted "Tuesday."

Congratulations. emoticon

I still think they aren't doing things right, and they are not focusing on the right issues. But it's their decision.

I no longer visit bookstores. I feel terrible when I enter one. 99% are books I don't want to read. Their genre sections are minimal, and only the usual bestseller stuff I don't care about.

*shrugs* I practically buy indie ebooks on Amazon and nothing else.

Think about it. They called you in the evening. If they told everyone their books would be there on Monday, people would show up at all hours on Monday before the delivery arrives, and then throw a big fit because it wasn't there on "Monday" like they were told it would be.

Also consider that their delivery time might not always be the same, and the possibility that they could be too busy and/or understaffed on delivery day to unpack their shipments as soon as they come in. All things considered, they can save themselves a lot of headaches if they quote people a day later than their actual delivery date, then call customers if they manage to get it all unpacked and sorted early enough on delivery day.
