List of Pages to Customise?

I'm still finding my way around and so far I have customised the following pages........

Forum page
Topic page
Post page
Reply and New Topic Page
Members list page

Could you tell me, are there any other pages that I am missing to customise individually?

It isn't exactly a page but... Polls, they are easy to customize but the only way to see what you have is by creating a poll.

Thanks so much. I've just spotted the one you created on my board. I never thought about polls.

I'm really grateful for the help you are giving me.

I've still got to fine tune a few things on there, but so far so good.

Fine tuning the pages is the most tedious part for me. I enjoy doing it but there are so many choices and not all of them are intuitive that it slows me down at times. emoticon

The search form doesn't have a class name, but you could target that form in your CSS like this:

form[action$="simplesearch"]

Thank you LG. I'll have a go with that.

I am quite looking forward to the fine tuning Rick because as I find those little bits it's going to help me understand the coding and classes.

Some things I wont spot are not quite right until I've played on the board for a few days. I've yet to make the reply and new topic page a bit prettier. I haven't done much to that yet.

You're welcome, Zandranna. emoticon

It seems like the reply/new topic page is usually one of the last pages to get styled, and it has been even neglected on some skins.

If someone tries to post while they're not logged in, they'll see a login form with a gray gradient background. To make that form match your board, you could try something like this:

#login_form_div .textbutton,
#login_form_div .textbutton:hover {
     box-shadow: none;
     background: #B78FB1 url([sign in to see URL]);
     border: 3px double #fff;
     color: #fff;
}
.support_master_background {
     background: #f3efe3;
     border: 1px solid #ae84a8;
}
.support_shadow {
     box-shadow: none;
}

I use two browsers while styling logged-out areas: one browser where I'm logged in (Firefox) and one where I'm logged out (Chrome). That way, you can view pages while logged out, without having to keep logging in and out to make changes.

Re:

Oh yes! I see that!

Now that one could have taken me weeks to find. I've just checked that while logged out in Safari.

Thank you.

That's something else I must remember to do tomorrow.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a perfectionist when I make a skin. On the system that I have my active board at the moment I have created many skins for both boards and profiles to share there.

One thing I do try to do is make the css as tidy as possible with no un-necessary code shoved in. It's going to take me quite awhile to learn to do that here on Runboard. I will probably have to use a skin for many weeks to spot things I have missed out or not done correctly. But it's going to be fun learning.

One thing I have noticed with Runboard (although there might be a way that I haven't discovered yet) is being able to change the size of the font globally.

Runboards have their text very small and I'm having to change the size of the font on every individual section of the pages.

It would be nice to be able to with a simple bit of coding for instance to change everything that is 11px to 13px and likewise for other sizes.

It's the same with bold font. RB seems to have so much font automatically as bold and I"m having to change many individual parts to normal. RB does like their bold font, lol.

You're welcome, Zandranna.

Sadly, there are a lot of fonts defined individually in the default css when they didn't need to be, and the only way to redefine those fonts is to target each class, unless you disable the ]default CSS. You can do this at the top of the custom CSS page, by changing it to say "No" where it says, "Prepend the default CSS (best is to leave this set to Yes):"

I disabled the default CSS at my own personal board, Temple of Illusia. If you do that, you can define one overall font size and family for the entire board, and set different sizes and weights (like bold) for different areas as you see fit. This can be quite an endeavor for some people, but you and Spherical might be able to handle it, and you can still refer to the [sign in to see URL] as a guide.

It's definitely good to make CSS as compact as possible. The reason it is the way it is right now is because most of it was coded by someone who is well-versed in server-side programming and javascript but not well-versed in HTML and CSS, which are vastly different languages, and a lot has changed in HTML and CSS standards since Runboard was created in 2003. If Thor and I ever find time to re-code boards as we've been wanting to do for years, the code will be much more compact, easier to customize, and more mobile-friendly than it currently is.

I didn't want to risk disabling the default css when I first came because I hadn't a clue how that would work out, but when I make a next skin on my test board I will do that and see how it might work for me.

Hahaha, I nearly mentioned to Spherical (Martha) in a post this morning how the default coding looks very old fashioned. We are both always up for learning new things though. It keeps our brains active, especially at my age.

A great part of Martha's and my joy on a system is the messing about with the skins.

It would be very interesting to watch how it turns out when/if you and Thor do get the time to re-code.

One thing I am going to badly miss on RB though is the not being able to use html in the posts. I have never been keen on bbcode. I've rarely ever had to use it.
