Language Tranlator Plug-In Option?

Can I add something so members can see the forum in their native language, not just English? If so, how do I add languages?

Hi san515. I cannot really help you with this, and I am not sure it can be done at all, but Lesigner Girl will know what to tell you. Hang in here and she will be along.

There is no automatic translator that I know of.

However, you can change many parts of your forum through the language set.

Board Management > customize the language set

Most of that is self-explanatory. In fact, I once created a bilingual board this way.

Hannah Steenbock's Forum

I hope that solves at least part of your problem.

Hi San,

Unfortunately, Firle is correct. Runboard doesn't have multi-language support, other than the ability to change the custom language set, as she has done for her board that she linked to.

I have a thought, but I don't know if it will work. I think I could create a 3rd-party feature that would automatically create a link to a Google Translation of that page, but I don't know if Google would automatically translate it to the user's language.

Firle, can you answer that? If you go to to this link, does it translate this page to German for you?

I bet it does...because when I went there for fun, it said:

quote:

The page you have attempted to translate is already in English.

All it needed to do was add "idjit" to the end of that! emoticon

Thanks for the tips. I need translation for Dutch, Spanish, French, Russian, Czech. A plug-in would allow the users to set their language. Otherwise, it's a mute point. emoticon

You're welcome, San. I wish we did have that feature, because it would be very good to have.

Lol, Queeny. emoticon

I get the same message as Queeny, except in German.

"Die eingegebene Seite ist bereits auf Englisch übersetzt."

The links to go back to the original site or view the original site do not work.

After learning a little bit about Lesigner Girl, I somehow ended up on this post and read through it.

When I went to the link that Lesigner Girl posted above, and at the top where it says "translate," I put in from English to German, I did get a translation to German.

Well...it seems that I can't link you to the thread in German, (I get an error message) but here is Firle's last post translated by the Google Translate into German (using the link that Lesigner Girl gave.)

Ich bekomme die gleiche Meldung wie Queeny, außer in deutscher Sprache.

"Die eingegebene Seite ist BEREITS auf Englisch Übersetzt."

Die Links zu gehen zurück auf die Original - Website oder der Original - Website sehen nicht funktionieren.

Try it out, but you have to make sure you put languages into the "From" and "To" fields.

It seems strange that it told you, "Die eingegebene Seite ist bereits auf Englisch übersetzt" instead of "The page you have attempted to translate is already in English." If it knows to put that message in German, I would have expected German to be the default translation, as well.

It appears that Google Translate assumes you want an English translation because I sent you to their .com site. If I send you to the .de site, it will probably translate it into German.

That's odd. Even the one that says "Ansicht originale Seite"?

Hi Sue,

Which is unfortunate, because someone would have to be able to read those labels in English and know what English-speaking people call their language so they can select it.

Here's what "English" is called in a few different languages:

Englisch (German/Deutsche)
Inglés (Spanish/Español)
Anglais (French/français)
английский (Russian/русский)
Béarla (Irish/Gaeilge)
अंग्रेज़ी (Hindi/हिंदी)
