URLs in HTML

So I thought of making a scroller in the html but unfortunately (and predictably!) for me, I ran into a problem. I wanted to put a smilie in the HTML (a welcome sign for new members), but it links back to my Photo Bucket account and I don't want it to.

Any ideas?

Thanks! emoticon

Re: Images in HTML

From the HTML that photobucket gives you, remove this:

<a href="http://photobucket.com".....>

(everything before "<img" which is the beginning of your image tag)

and remove:

</a>

<a....> and </a> are the linking HTML. You only need <img and everything up to the very next > for the image itself.

For example, you would remove the part in red, and keep the part in blue:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/blah/blah.gif" border="0" alt="Whatever" /></a>

If you need more help, please post the exact HTML you are using, and either PR or I can tell you exactly what to keep and what to remove.

Re: Images in HTML

OK similar question (I'll edit my title): How do I put a basic link in HTML? Do I use <url> and </url> tags? Because the and type don't work.

Sorry for my knowledge on these things being so low emoticon

Re: Images in HTML

In HTML you use "a href" for text links like this one (used because I am working on the site right now):

<a href="http://bmyvalentine.runboard.com/">Your Board Name Here</a>

<a href= is how you start the link

"http://bmyvalentine.runboard.com/"> is the link itself (notice you put the url inside quote marks)

Once you have the link set you put whatever text you want everyone to see

</a> closes the HTML selector so you don't end up telling the browsers to include the whole page as a link.

It's always fun when someone omits </marquee> at the top of the page and makes a whole page scroll. emoticon

Thank you, PR! emoticon

Learning all the HTML stuff is really cool, although it feels like I'm starting over again, not even knowing how to add a link! emoticon

Yep! Well, unless it's at your own board like with me last year! emoticon emoticon

Brian, I have seen several people make their whole board scroll over the years, so don't feel bad. emoticon
