Hide replies
We can already hide topics but it would help us on the search engines if the admins could also "hide replies" in a topic.
For example, we might want the first post (topic creator) to be visible but the replies contain copyrighted material or maybe something which needs to be kept private from the general public for whatever reason.

Re: Hide replies
Hmm so maybe someone just posts a load of spam, which is pointless, so you don't want people to see it, but you want to report it?
Well if it's something like that you could make a hidden topic where you keep posts only you can see, then copy the post you want hidden and paste it into the hidden topic, then before you delete the post in the old topic you could click "link to post" and you could copy and paste that to the hidden topic. You could also note which number topic it came from as reference to go along with the post number.
But yeah, your's would be more efficient.

Re: Hide replies
Let us say you have a topic starter on a new movie that has come out. Perhaps a movie several of your boards members have already seen.
You want the topic starter post to be visible, it helps you when it comes to the search engines so that instead of a google result of:
XYZ Board: ??? - Runboard the result would read:
XYZ Board: Star Huntress 7 - Runboard which is good.
What you do not want is for the search engines to see all the posts with the caption "spoiler alert." You want people intrigued by the topic starter and joining your board to see the discussion (which is hidden from both the search engines and non-members of your board).

Re: Hide replies
Do I understand correctly that you want to hide replys from search engines, but not from board members?

Actually, yes! Currently when we hide a topic and a search engine like Google indexes it the topic name is replaced with ??? since the spider knows something is there but cannot read it. This does Runboard, the Message Board, and potential members no good at all... it might even be hurting us in the page rankings but I can not definitively say that it does. The ability to "hide replies" preserves the topic name for the search engines which helps everyone and gives the board owner, admins, and moderators the ability to protect copyrighted or sensitive material and deny spammers the "piggyback" they sometimes use when posting on a ongoing legitimate discussion.

Re: Hide replies
This would be a great option to have for when staff aren't sure if a post is spam or not. They could hide it in plan sight until a decision is made to delete it or unhide it. They wouldn't have to hide the whole thread, or move it out of sight.
Ooh. Or they could just leave it hidden permanently for evidence.
