Re: Anyone Have Some Fresh Ideas for Board Design?

Just today I started working on the drop-down menus with links in them. So far, it seems like this will work, but I need to work out how it will fit into the board's design.

I am testing it out in my ]Testdummy test board.

Anyone have pointers on how to move the sidebar down and to change the font (size and color mainly)? I tried modifying the css code (font specifics), but perhaps that is being overridden elsewhere.

I also added the rainbow hover effect for links on the ]Warhammer Quest board. Only one comment so far -- It took a member by surprise, but he likes that it helps him to find the pointer! emoticon

By the way, why on earth do I get a really long url when I copy from the link in the Bookmarks? See the code below for what I am talking about.

We've been using Viglink for about a year, to help pay for Runboard's hosting and other costs. ]Here's the announcement and some information about it.

I looked at the code at your test board, and think the easiest thing to do would be to let me clean it up for you before continuing. Do I have your permission to do that?

You can get the original link by doing a edit where you put the link in originally and then copying that. It's easier to do than explain it... maybe I should make some pics to show what I mean...

Re: Anyone Have Some Fresh Ideas for Board Design?

Sorry, I forgot to suggest that. Thanks, Rick. Another thing you can do is click on a link, then grab the address from the address bar.

OldWarrior, ]I set up a fiddle here that you are welcome to play with and copy over to your boards. Everything above "Board content goes here" would go in the HTML header, everything below that would go in the HTML footer, and the stuff in the top right box would go in the CSS. I used onclicks in the sidebar instead of hovers, because I think it's easier to navigate that way.

You don't actually need to include this part of the CSS, since it's handled in the layout/colors section:

body       {

    font: 12px verdana, arial, sans-serif;
    background: #fef9dc url('[sign in to see URL]');
}
a:link, a:visited { color: #3e618c; }
a:hover { background: #f7eda6; }

Notice how all of the styling is done separately from the content. No need for <font>, <center>, <b>, and other tags of that sort.

Thanks for the offer, but for now I think I will work with the info you provided in your next post. I am one who learns much by doing, so it is not just about getting the board to look the way I want -- It's also a training exercise. emoticon

After checking things out and working with it some more, if I still get stuck, I will certainly welcome your direct assistance.

Thanks, Pastor Rick and LG, you have given me plenty to do for a while. emoticon

Oh, and the rainbow hover effect is now getting some bad press too! lol

You're welcome, OldWarrior! emoticon

I like how you want to learn to code, and hope the fiddle I set up will help. I like how it displays the HTML, CSS, and result all at the same time, which might make it easier to see how it works together. emoticon

I seem to be having trouble getting the sidebar to behave. It wants to sit at the bottom of the page.

I shall look at it some more...

Double-check what you have against the JSFiddle. At first glance, I see you have two </div>s at the end of your header when they should be at the beginning at your footer.

I think we are missing something, because I created a new test board, ]WHQ Test, and copied the html and css exactly as you have it and got the same result: Sidebar on the bottom of the page.

Is there some setting I might be missing that can cause this?
