Share messed up?

I feel like this is a bug but if... it is not a bug then I need some help using the feature correctly..

Here is my post:

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

and of course I want to "share" this post with my friends on FaceBook... This is what FaceBook wants to post:

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

if... Facebook would let me edit the thing I wouldn't say anything but they don't and I do not want to "share" gibberish, I want to "share" the actual post so what do I do????

Re:

The only thing I can think to do is to actually post your post there before you post the link.

That has been a long time problem on Facebook. I remember once that Queeny wanted to post a link to something and the only picture it would show was my avatar and some gibberish.

Edited to add: When I post something from Susa's Sunroom there it picks out the picture I have from my "Click me" button at the top of my board to use as a picture. Almost no one on my board actually sees that picture ever.

I never use Facebook share links from any site that offers them, Runboard or elsewhere, because they never seem to work properly. I always copy the URL, paste it directly into Facebook, then click on the title and snippet and change them before I submit it.

It totally is.... emoticon
And Susa is [sign in to see URL]'ve found you have to post a comment, then add the link after you have "talked" some. And IF that link is close to some other kind of link that FB has [sign in to see URL] will USE THAT ONE.. emoticon
At least it works most of the time..

FB has never replaced my link with a different one. emoticon

FB status messages work differently than comments. When you paste a URL into the status box, it will add an image and text before I submit it. It can take a few seconds, but it shows up eventually. This is where I'll click on the text that FB adds, which is usually wrong, and fix it to reflect the actual post. It will also usually give a few different choices for a thumbnail. When I make an announcement in our Announcements forum, I'll often create an image to go with it, so I can select this as the thumbnail.

Links in comments, on the other hand, won't turn into actual links or show a preview until after they've been submitted. I wish it worked more like statuses, because it would be nice to be able to choose the thumbnail and make sure the text properly reflects the link you're putting in the comment.

Aha! So I wasn't doing something wrong, you make the post on FB and edit it to look like it came from Runboard. Has anyone told FB their share link coding is totally worthless?

Re: Share messed up?

There might be something Thor can do to display the first post in a topic properly, but it might only work if something is shared from the first page of the topic, and they don't seem to have a way to handle individual posts. ]Here is their developer page about the share button.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

If I paste [sign in to see URL]#post286893 in there, the result is the same as the 2nd one.

Notice how it shows the page title and board's <meta> description when there's no #post_____ at the end, and the garbled mess from the user popup of the poster when it is included.

The thumbnail is random and can be changed by arrowing through the options, but they only give a few options. So far, every time I've put an image in an Announcement post to have it show on FB, it has been one of the options. I'm actually surprised to see Queeny's avatar as one of those options, since that doesn't show up until the 5th post. I did see the leaf in Susa's sig as one of the options, but not the image with her name.
