Open to view, application to post
I am trying to find boards that have their settings set up so I can see everything (even posts) but which require a application submission before the new user can post.
I cannot figure out how to look for these boards!

Re: Open to view, application to post
I don't see a way to do it, either. I searched Google, Yahoo, and Bing for:
"You must be a member of this board in order to write." site:runboard.com
It doesn't look like any of them follow the topic/reply/quote links. I'm sure this was intentional, since search engines don't need to index the posting screen, but it would have been handy in this particular case.
There's no way to make Runsearch do it, either, because Runsearch only spiders the main page of boards. I looked up one listing in particular that I know has the setup you're looking for, and it says "Public to read/logged in to post" because it doesn't know any better.
It would be handy to show a note of this "open to read/member to post" requirement on the main page of such boards, because some people will create a Runboard account, browse the board for days, and finally try to post something before realizing they needed to submit an application.

Re: Open to view, application to post
I was hopeful that even though I have been doing Runboard specific searches for 7 years now, (gasp), I was just having a "senior moment" and there was a easy way to find these boards. It's times like these I wish the previous generations of the Runboard staff were still around, I am totally confident in our group but those guys and gals were here when Runboard started and knew every shortcut and trick possible back then. Maybe one of them (Alpha or Smack) knew a way that we have not discovered yet. Then again, with the changes Runboard has gone through maybe that searching trick they knew doesn't work anymore...

Re: Open to view, application to post
I thought I had figured out a way to find some of them but Runboard's "simple search" doesn't find posts that I know exist. Since 2007 Erika, and others would tell me if a RDS nominee went private but "simple search" doesn't look at the posts, just the post titles. *sigh*

What's truly annoying, is when the board owner doesn't notify you when he/she decides to close his/her board before he/she does this.
I know of such an Runboard owner who, to the best of my recollection...never had a closed board, until acouple days ago. When I clicked-on his board, onl to find that I needed a special password for which to log on. And, he's never, to the best of my knowledge, ever issued to us that special password--PERIOD!!!
Titanic: Ship of Lost Dreams is the name of his board.
Thank you for listening to my complaint.

Re:
Oh my! I was/am a member there as well but without the password I can not enter the board either. The really bad part with this setting is there are zero links. You can not even contact the boards staff to get help under this setting...

Re:
Okay, being the stealthy kinda guy that I am I went back in time so I could at least see who to contact about getting the password. Wish me luck...

Re: Open to view, application to post
I wonder if it was the owner's intention to clear the member list, because that's what they did.
Good luck, PR. If clearing the member list was a mistake, hopefully they'll add people back who were members before.
MurdochsAid, I've seen you around, and know you have posted at that board recently. I hope this was a boo boo, and the owner didn't decide to close the board without telling anyone.

Re:
I am sorry that this has happened, MurdochsAid. I hope it can get all sorted out and the board gets opened back up. I was a member there, too, but I know that you posted there regularly and was his friend. Something happened. If Pastor Rick or Lesa can't figure it out then no one can.

Re: Titanic: Ship of Lost Dreams' Mr Titanic, the board owner
Thank you everyone for your kind help just the same.
I greatly appreciate all your outputs regarding this situation.
I hope that Mr Titanic reopens his board again, without having to go through this major headache. I did, however, inbox him, for which I requested that he send me a **special** password via Inbox, so that I can get back into his board.
Hugs,
MA
