Board was down today

Can you tell us why the board was down for so long today?

We had problems yesterday too and could not sign on to our board because the servers were too busy.

Thanks for the info. Wish we knew again of time, when possible, when the board was going to be down.

Joan at Esther

Re: Board was down today

Hi Joan,

All of the information is on our Facebook page ([sign in to see URL]) where we were posting while Runboard was down, but here's a recap.

Murphy's Law happened. Thor has been on holiday in Cambodia. Yesterday, Runboard went down while it was the middle of the night there, and it took a while before anyone could wake him up. Once he found out about it, he had it fixed pretty quickly.

Today, there was a huge storm where he is that knocked out his internet, and he was waiting for it to come back on when he fell asleep. He didn't know yet that there was a problem, and just wanted to check on Runboard and anything else he might have wanted to check before bed. I came online around 2:30pm my time (Eastern US), found out Runboard was down, and woke him on his cell phone around 1:30am Cambodia time. Luckily, his internet had come back by then, so he was able to get it fixed pretty quickly after that.

Both times were hardware failures that were unrelated to each other, so there was no way to give anyone any notice, and the best we could do is update people through our Facebook page like we always try to do. We almost never have hardware failures, so this was a really strange fluke with very bad timing.

We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration.

You're welcome, Joan. emoticon

Yes, if you "Like" our Facebook page, then any announcements we make there will show up in your own FB live feed. emoticon

Edit to add: If you comment on one of our FB announcements, then people on your FB friend list will know about the announcement, too, which could be a good way to alert any of your RB members who are also on your FB friend list. emoticon

Thor's next vacation should be someplace romantic with great food, great beaches, and a solid reputation in the arts.... like say.... Paris! emoticon

Paris doesn't really have any beaches, although it can be quite nice down by the river. emoticon

I have an alternate idea, though. Instead of not letting Thor go on holiday, he can teach me how to run the server side of things, then fly me out there and let me stay in his apartment whenever he goes out of town. emoticon

Dang. I should have become an expert at coding too. Then we could both go and house sit.

Server maintenance is a whole different world from coding, and I wouldn't have known what to do even if I had access to the servers when Runboard went down.
