I love it . . . . . . . other than it is black. But black makes sense.

Re: Navbar is now on boards

Thanks for the feedback. I sent Thor an email, and will try to discuss with him on Monday any possible changes to make.

Re:

Hi Lesa,

As already mentioned, it's not that I don't like the navigation bar, but it did affect on my board's page layout as it pushed the whole page down.

Also, I see this navigation bar duplicating the existing navigation buttons we already have displayed as part of our board's page and which are clearly visible.

I reckon we (board owners) could be given an option to turn it off like it is the case with some other features.

Re: Navbar is now on boards

Thanks for the additional feedback, Jalal. I'll certainly let Thor know that some people don't want it on boards, and discuss it with him.

As for the redundant navigation, you can do what I did at ]my board and remove it in your custom language set. Some CSS will be necessary to get rid of the blank spaces it leaves, but it's do-able.

When we finally get around to creating a table-less layout for boards, I'm pretty sure those currently-redundant links won't be there, and there is also no need for a logout link at the bottom of any page because it's in the navbar.

Also, we plan on adding more features to the navbar, which will make it even more useful. If we do add the ability to disable the navbar, it will have to be on a per-user basis, and it will have to be easy for each user to make it visible again without having to go through their control panel. This isn't like enabling and disabling the who's online or board stats, because disabling the navbar on a per-board basis would remove that choice from users and prevent them from taking advantage of the new real-time PM notification feature and other features we'll be coming out with.

Re:

Sorry Lesa, but I still think the "redundant" navigation buttons are far more visible and accessible for users of my board (especially newbies) than the navigation bar at the top. I don't want to get rid of them for the time being unless there will be a general Runboard move to change the entire layout of the navigation bar and have it displayed in one single place (either at the top of of the page or where the existing navigation buttons are).

Re: Navbar is now on boards

I'm not saying you have to remove those links. I was just suggesting that as an option.

I was actually thinking the same thing earlier about combining navigation while removing the other links from my board. But then I thought, everything in the navbar pertains to the user, while the mark forums as read, subscribe, etc, all pertain to the board, so it makes sense to have one place for global stuff and another one for board-specific stuff.

I do think it would be good, though, to get rid of the support link on boards because it's now in the navbar and doesn't pertain to any specific board; and put the links for Chat room, Search, and RSS with the links to mark forums read, subscribe, and bookmark boards, because those all have to do with the board you're on.

Re:

Overall I do like the direction the new nav bar seems to be pointing towards, after a few days I don't even pay attention to it though since is really isn't a part of the boards. Speaking as a coder of sorts, I don't want to remove the navbar but I would like some type of "customization" options. As for the now redundant nav buttons, the only ones not duplicated by the new nav bar are the "mark ___ as read" and the "subscribe to this topic." This should make for some "interesting" skin coding in the future.

I'm really hoping we can get around to doing the table-less layouts this year, because that will make for some even more interesting coding. All good, of course. emoticon

Re: Navbar is now on boards

I like it. I noticed it the other day. It's actually very cool to have when accessing Runboard from another computer without my browser bookmarks.

Before, I always had to jump back to [sign in to see URL] to access my Runboard bookmarks. This saves me a lot of clicks when I sneak on from work. emoticon

Good job!

Thanks, Firle! emoticon

I love having the bookmarks there, too. Just hover, click, and I'm there. emoticon
