The heart smilie...

Whenever we type the word heart now, it shows the heart smilie instead of the word.

This didn't happen before and just started doing it.

The only thing I have did new was change out some smilies. Could this somehow have caused the heart to show instead of the words now?

Our members do not want it show for the word.

Thanks.

Hi Joan,

Smilies are triggered by the "Smiley Text" code you give for the smiley which is why the standard convention is to place a colon before or after or both before and after the Smiley Text code so users do not accidentally post the smiley when they want to post the word itself.

The common (read pre-graphic) code for a heart was <3 which kinda looks like a heart standing on its side. The recomendation for proper coding on Runboard would be something like:

:<3 or <3: or :<3: so users wouldn't post something like 1<3 and end up with 1 which is bad when talking about a math problem.

It sounds like you have the word "heart" as your Smiley Text code so all you would need to do is add a colon or colons as described above to stop future cases of accidental smiley posting (though I am afraid the places where the user really wanted the smiley will show as the word until you manage to edit them out)...

I hope this helps...

Yes. Whatever you put in that "Smiley Text" column will convert to the image you associate with it. In this case, all you have for your smiley text is the word heart, while most of your other smileys have a colon in front of them to avoid having the words show up as unintended smileys.

Another one to stay away from is :/ because it will always mess up links. :-/ should be safe, though. emoticon

You're welcome, Joan. emoticon

I'm not sure I've ever omitted a colon from a smiley, but I've certainly omitted colons and semi-colons plenty of times while writing CSS, so I know how easily it can happen. emoticon
