Re:

This is my wireless laptop. It was only for about a minute or two.

I am going to plug the laptop into my desktop's Ethernet cord and see what happens.

Here are the results on the laptop after I turned off the wireless and used the cord from the desktop.

I can't go online at all now with my desktop. My son-in-law is coming over.

Now the screen that pops ups says Proxy Server is Refusing Connections.

My SIL says I should not have a Proxy Server.

You said yesterday that you found and removed some malware? Maybe it changed your LAN settings. Try this:

You could do this from any browser, but since you use Chrome, go into your Chrome settings:

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

This will open your settings in a new Chrome tab. Scroll to the bottom and click, "Show advanced settings."

Scroll down to the "Network" heading and click on the "Change proxy settings" button. This will give you a popup.

Go to the "Connections" tab in the popup, then click on the "LAN settings" button.

Make sure the only box that's checked is "Automatically detect settings." It should look like this screen shot:

Ha, ha! I actually, I think the problem was a driver.

After I got back online because of your instructions it still did it. Then my SIL had me go get a driver to replace one on my computer and now it is working correctly.

Look at this!

Let's hope it stays that way. I had only run it a couple minutes but before it blinked on and off continually. I am running a longer scan on it while I play around to be sure.

Re:

Now that I am thinking back through it all I think my finding that malware helped a lot because when I looked that up it says that it hijacks the person's browser which is probably why that check mark was switched to add a proxy. Then when I had deleted the malware, [sign in to see URL], I couldn't get back online because that was my proxy.

I probably also needed that driver so it was a combination of things.

Once I got those things fixed, it was fixed. It is working fast now and the Internet is not dropping out.
