Jox, I am doing Gimp thanks to Lesa. If I can do Gimp, you can do Gimp. I let it sit on my desktop a couple years, opening and closing it occasionally, doing a transparent background occasionally and now I am finally using it on a regular basis. I think it is a wonderful program.

It does look like it would be a great program. And I would LOVE to know it inside and out ... I just need to not let it intimidate me so much. emoticon I should do like Anne Lamott says, and take it 'bird by bird.' emoticon

These tutorials might help you both. I watched the first one. She explained what she did pretty thoroughly, and the audio and video quality were good. emoticon

You're welcome, Susa. emoticon

She uses it a bit differently than I do, but I wouldn't say one is any better than the other. I just wanted to point it out because there are multiple ways to perform the same tasks, so if you're already going through different menus to do the same things she is, it's a case of choosing a different route and not a case of it being set up differently, if that makes sense.

Examples:

If you have one of the selection tools selected, clicking anywhere in the image area but outside the selected area will do the same thing as "Select > None".

If you right-click on the image or one of the layers, you'll see that a lot of the same menu options are in duplicate places.

To create a new layer, I right-click on one in the layers dialog and choose "New Layer" from there, instead of using the little paper icon like she does.

Of course, you can have your Gimp set up differently than hers. She shows three different windows, while I only keep two open. I keep my layers dialog and tool options docked underneath the tools, with nothing else open except the image itself.

You don't have to remember everything I typed here, but it might help to know that there are multiple ways to get to the same options. emoticon
