Re: Empty post

I just read a little about Sendori. Apparently, they claim to protect people from malicious sites and other stuff, but it sounds pretty much like a browser hijacker to me.

Cnet used to offer it for download as recently as October 15 (Google cache of page), but has since removed it.

WOT has two comments for Sendori's site. One in 2010 said it was good, and one in Feb 2012 said it redirected to porn and dating sites. I guess it's a good thing for you that it only linked your 'Walmart' text to Walmart's website. emoticon Well, and possibly caused your blank reply box, too. emoticon

PhotFiltre's official download link is here. I wouldn't trust most file collection download sites. You do need to pay attention on the installation or you get the "ask" toolbar installed as well.

WOT looks like a "WebRep" rip-off so I would be very suspicious of it since most virus' and malware's like to hide behind something that looks good...

That's a relief. Those porn-serving viruses can be a real pain. I got one of those fake anti-virus thingies once, and it must have popped up about 50 or so porn sites before I could get rid of the blasted thing. emoticon I keep malwarebytes and a couple of other programs on a flash drive in case something like that happens again, because they hijack the browser so you can't go to the sites to download the stuff that will get rid of it. emoticon

WOT is a good thing. However, sometimes it says that OK sites are not OK.

quote:

WOT helps you find trustworthy websites based on millions of users’ experiences and is one of Chrome’s most popular add-ons.
Web of Trust (WOT) shows you with intuitive traffic lights which websites you can trust for safe surfing, shopping and searching on the web.

WOT ratings are powered by millions of users who rate websites based on their experiences. Third-party sources are also used to warn you about malware and other technical threats. You will see a green, yellow or red icon next to search results when you use Google, Yahoo!, or Bing, on links in social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and other popular sites like Wikipedia.

Make the best out of your browsing and avoid untrustworthy links before they lead you to trouble.

Re: Empty post

Also, a site can be trustworthy when they first come out, and receive good reviews before it becomes untrustworthy. The people who run the site could start doing something malicious, or they could simply start using the wrong ad service.

One of our competitors has received reports from time to time from users who have gotten viruses from their ads. This probably happens with other message board services, too, but I'm only aware of the one. I like the fact that we use Google ads here, because I've never known them to cause that kind of problem.

But back to my point, a site could receive a lot of good ratings at WOT before something changes, whether it's intentional on their end or not, and those good ratings would still factor in with the current ratings. I think WOT can be helpful, but it might be more helpful if they show some kind of graph of how well they rate at any given time, instead of just showing one rating without breaking it down into time periods.

And yes, they sometimes say a site is not ok when they are, which could mean they used a bad ad service at some point and got rid of it after it was reported, or if it's a small site, a person or group of people with a grudge could give that site bad ratings.
