Chisum

I asked for help in figuring out who the man is in my avatar and was told the man was the sheriff in a John Wayne movie called Chisum... I couldn't find the movie but one of my boarders did so I'll be watching the movie tomorrow after church. After viewing it I'll post a review and my own conclusion on whether or not my avatar really is a sheriff. emoticon

Good luck with your search, Pilgrim. emoticon

I looked up the cast for the movie and think it could be either Pat Garrett or Jeff the Head Wrangler. emoticon

Re: Chisum

There is a scene almost at the end of the movie where Pat Garrett (Glenn Corbett)is watching Billy 'The Kid' Bonney (Geoffrey Deuel) as he rides out of town. Pat Garrett's profile is highlighted by a store that is burning in the background and looks very much like the cowboy I used for my avatar. emoticon

Chisum itself is a story based on the historical person John Chisum and is an abbreviated version of the old west "range war" in Lincoln County, New Mexico Territory in 1878. One thing very odd is that even though several historical events are time compressed (such as the set-up of rival stores in days as opposed to the 2+ years it really took) the pace of the film seems slow until the last half hour of the movie. I think this is a good film overall, John Chisum (John Wayne) is developed as a character which was something lacking in John Wayne's earlier films. The climatic shootout in Lincoln is well done and has a couple of surprises in it even though you know Chisum is going to win in the end. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Not everything! I was crying in "The Shootist" because he was playing himself and he was dying for real. I grew up watching his movies in my towns community center and just couldn't stand the thought of him really dying.
