Hi Katlin,

I only have a couple of minutes but yes that is true (depending on how you set the ads display setup). If you have the ads set to display them to all users who are not logged in then those pageviews do not cost you premium pageviews.

Hi Pastor Rick,

I am not sure how to ask the question I am wanting answered. We were not curious about pageviews versus premium pageviews, but maybe that's because we don't really understand the difference between the two and how that difference affects the pageviews figures!

We were wondering if there is anyway to tell how many non-logged in guests the board gets each day and how many pages they actually view? When the numbers were small, we just assumed that if we got 20 non-logged in guests who each looked at 2 pages, that would register as 40 pageviews. But now that the pageview numbers have been increasing, we realize that we can't be having 2492 guests who each look at one page, or half that many guests who look at twice as many pages, etc.

Our curiousity wasn't about buying/paying for premium pageviews, but a curiousity about how the pageviews, in general, work. Mainly it is a curiousity about how many people are visiting the board, who they are, where they come from and what they are looking at. Although this wasn't my initial question, since you mentioned how we "set the ads display setup," I was wondering what setup you recommend?

I apologize in advance for being so confused and unaware about all of this. I wanted to ask sooner, but I felt so stupid having to ask! Well, I still feel stupid, but, hey, maybe I'll learn something. emoticon

Hi Katlin!

I can't answer all of your questions, but I now have my board set to show ads to anyone who is logged out. That setting is under miscellaneous options and is about halfway down the page. When I ran out of page views so fast it was because I did not have that check marked. I had unchecked that as an experiment and never dreamed I would run out so fast. Therefore, a lot of those zillion page views do count.

Thanks, Susa. After I posted this morning, I went to the control panel at Delectable Mnts and discovered that we do not have the box you mention checked. I am going to discuss this with the board owner and other adminstrators.

I am glad I could help.

I was going to leave that unchecked so my board was more inviting to outsiders, but I think bots up the page count and people searching Google for topics pop in and out of message boards. There are many more page views from outsiders than we know and almost none of those are prospective members. A few of them are though.

Re: Page view question

Another post coming your way from Delectable Mnts. I don't mind the premium or that so many unaccountable views bite into it. If it didn't buy the board page view credits I would be inclined to make a remittance of sorts anyway, if only in the spirit of paying rent and supporting the consortium. But the always suspicious rat terrier in me says something is not squaring right. Too many page views for a board as small as ours. I've followed up on the advise to turn on the Ad display function for logged out visitors. Any other suggestions?

Lesa will be coming by very soon and she knows more about this than I do. She will have good ideas to share.

Re: Page view question

Hi Tere,

In case it helps to compare, here are totals from the last 7 days on 3 different boards. As you can see, not-logged-in lurkers make up most of the page views on all three boards, and the number of posts is a tiny fraction of the number of views.

7369 Not logged in
 337 Logged in, non premium
 791 Logged in, premium
  35 posted messages

1536 Not logged in
 169 Logged in, non premium
 152 Logged in, premium
   0 Posted messages

11400 Not logged in
  356 Logged in, non premium
 1892 Logged in, premium
  121 Posted messages

When you choose to display ads to logged-out lurkers, the only views that will use up premium credits are the ones from "Logged in, non premium" users, since premium users don't deplete premium page views.

If you choose to show ads to both logged out and logged in users, this will make your credits last indefinitely, but I think it's nice to remove ads for members, plus it would take a very long time for them to deplete credits on all but the largest boards.

Re: Page view question

Thank you, Lesigner and Susa. Thank you, Katlin, for leading me to the thread.

Look. I could care less about the present premium credit cost. If ya'll put the rate at $500 I would certainly view the beast differently.

I want the poets posting on my board to be heard, read. That is my motive. But I am not trusting these numbers involving page views.

I've taken your advise. Clicked the appropriate box in the control pane. But I got to ask. Is Runboard fending off robotic arms or are we on our own?

You're welcome, Tere.

I can ask Thor to check his logs. I know he had it set up to not count bots in the stats, and I don't see anything out of the ordinary for the above three boards, but it can't hurt to have Thor double-check his logs to make sure everything is still working the way it should.
