Sorry, I made a 2nd post while you were responding to the first one.

Also, you said in PM that you had the Pictures forum set to "use forum's memberlist" (I assume you meant "use board's memberlist") at one point. Are you sure Tapir can still see that forum, now that you've fixed the security settings?

Can moosifer still see the mod/admin forum? If the security settings were changed for the pics forum at one point, I'm wondering if the same is true for the mod/admin forum.

no one can see anything now. (i created a sgtest account and opened the board for a minute so i could get in, and neither forum was visible to me at all). as soon as we were notified we changed the settings to 'no membership can be gained' and that made them go away again.

about the 'use board's memberlist' - when we were told that a member could see pics who wasn't supposed to be able to, we looked at the settings and saw they were set to 'use board's member list'. this is NOT how we left it. we would never have had it set on that. for years now this forum has been restricted.

Re: Private forums

If you are absolutely certain that you or SG Admin didn't change the settings on those forums, then I would suggest you both change your passwords for both your Runboard and email accounts, as well as your secret question/answer for your email account, don't keep them lying around where anyone can see them, and don't have your browser save your password if you're on a shared computer, just in case someone else logged in to one of your accounts and did this behind your backs. I'm not saying this is definitely what happened, but it shouldn't be discounted, and you should change your passwords often anyway.

I have never heard of a case where security settings have changed on their own at a board that is run by only experienced admins who are also good with their account security. To my knowledge (I only joined RB staff 4 years ago), it has never happened at Support, Directory, or Extra, nor at my own personal board, which have all been around and had private forums for 6-8 years. This is why I have to think it's either admin error or account hacking in this case, but I will make a mental note of it in case anyone else reports having this happen to them.

Other than being unsure of what exactly did cause the forums' settings to be changed, it sounds like you're all set, and nobody can see the forums they're not supposed to see?
