The Expendables Just saw this on PPV and thought it was a blast. The basic premise is good (CIA hiring mercenaries under a bidding system to do jobs they can "reasonably deny" if things go wrong).
It is setup with sequels in mind that may or may not have the big name actors reappearing but we do get to meet a whole new group of characters which show us the "brotherhood" that the mercenaries live under. I have no clue if any of the premises are really real but it works for the movie.
3 stars because the film uses a gimmick which is contrary to the idea under which the mercenaries operate (according to the movie) in order to get Sylvester Stallone group into action...
Re: The Expendables We watched this one in theaters...hilarious. Probably be buying it..
Love the part where Arnold Schwarzenegger walks out and they say "what's wrong with him....he wants to be President!"

Hours of darkness under the category of science fiction adventure with 3D format is the latest film project, directed by Chris Gorak, produced by Tom Jacobson and Timur Bekmambetov. Cast in the film is a combination of talents from around the world. Representing the East and Midwest, is Emile Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby. Max Minghella came from the United Kingdom, Joel Kinnaman is Swedish and Rachael Taylor from the land of the kangaroo species. Together, they form a group of actors in the sci-fi project with Hollywood ambition, the first project was shot entirely in Moscow.
"We are using 3D as a technology embedded in his narrative," Jacobson said. "We're not too excited about a horror movie classic style. Our idea is to make a product as the hurt locker and 28 wireless later. But the aesthetics of 3D technology is different. The question is: how can we tell a story like this in 3D format without making the viewer feel dizzy or nausea? This is a big challenge for us. "
One of the challenges created additional momentum for that crew decided to make films in 3D format. "It's a big ambition of us because it requires very high cost," said Bekmamtov. "It changed the entire production plan and we have to recalculate the entire scene - especially the arrangement of them - but there is also a very brave decision to turn 3D directly rather than passing Reformat after shooting. "
"For the first time here with director Chris Gorak, we have to be turned symbol of Moscow", seasoned producer Tom Jacobson said. "The scene where we were filming should be done in a different city, but Chris has decided to implement it in the middle of Red Square. He said, "I want to give our actors on an adventure in the city."
The script originally brought the film to a small town in America. But the idea of relocating back to Moscow made all excited. "I think it's a great choice," says director Chris Gorak. "There were too many American cities appear on the scene of triumph. This is a totally new location and it also has many cultural heritage and architecture, is indeed a paradise to shoot the sci-fi movie. "
Moscow, a place unfamiliar to most international audience, is because it has not yet appeared in several American films, which increases the feeling of isolation of the characters. "To succeed, a project must have a story across and placed in the context of a unique world," producer Timur Bekmambetov said. "You can use any classical story, but when you bring it to Moscow immediately it becomes much more interesting."
"Moscow is a great image and a special attraction, although not many people - especially Americans - to visit this city," Jacobson said. "It is worth noting here, that's the character we are strangers to this land in the first movie, then they are alien creatures attack."
"People rarely speak in Los Angeles to Moscow," Emile Hirsh said about the special attraction of the movie script for him. "Moscow also bring a different perspective when I read the script. It's a strange environment, so as to put a story like this in an environment alien to me makes my job even more interesting. "
