New feature: read / unread flag
After two days of sweating I think I came up with a solution that is a compromise between functionality, performance and scalability.
I am still unsure that this feature will suit you guys, but it kinda does suit me. I am very open to any criticism and suggestions, and will change this code if there is a consensus.
At any rate, if anything goes wrong, I will just disable this feature temporarily.
What it does:
1. There is a new square at the forum list, and topic list pages. If it reads "New" - it (the forum or topic) has new messages you haven't read yet.
2. Obviously it only works if you are logged in as a user.
3. There is a new link at the top of the page, on the forum and topic list pages, reading "Mark all forums as read" or "Mark this forum as read", depending on where you are, in a forum list or in a topic list. Clicking this link will do just what it says, i.e. remove all the "New" tags from the lists. It is RECOMMENDED to actually use this link.
Without using this link, even if you have read all the unread topics in a particular forum, the forum will still show up as "New" (having new messages). I might change it later.
4. It will only work well for people who visit your board at least like weekly. All tags older than one month are expired. This should have no incidence to the normal use of a board, but if a user goes on vacation for a month, when they come back, they might find that all the topics are marked as New to them. I will still look forward to fine tune this setting.
Please give me feedback. It works fine for me, but who knows.

Re: New feature: read / unread flag
I have found a bug with it. Everytime you post in a forum it says new for that forum and the forum below it.

Re: New feature: read / unread flag
Is there anyway I could disable this feature?
it kinda ruins my layout.
Or maybe I could make it really small..
Please help.

Re: New feature: read / unread flag
The ability to use an image instead of "New" is being looked into.
