Either way, it has to be a huge improvement over Hamburger Helper. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Thu, 27 May 2010 11:09:38 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262116,from=rss#post262116https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262116,from=rss#post262116I took your advice LG and went to Chili's with my wife last night. I don't know how big Neon Grill's burgers are, but they're about the size I would normally make one on a grill. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe about 1/3 pound. BTW, for anyone who uses metrics, 1 pounds is about 0.4375 kilogram.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Tue, 25 May 2010 18:26:36 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262078,from=rss#post262078https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262078,from=rss#post262078Neon Grill sounds like Monster Burger, that was the place to go in Fort Worth if you wanted the absolute best burger back in the 80's. It was a mom and pop place and the name of the place came from their ultimate 1-1/2 pound "Monster Burger" which you could still add on with things like pepper-jack cheese, chili and even "xtra beef" if it wasn't big enough for you. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Pastor Rick)Tue, 25 May 2010 18:13:08 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262077,from=rss#post262077https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262077,from=rss#post262077Sounds like the Neon Grill where I come from. It's not part of any chain, but they're a fast food drive through with good burgers. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Tue, 25 May 2010 17:19:20 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262073,from=rss#post262073https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262073,from=rss#post262073They do hamburgers and now breakfast sandwiches. Think back to a time when a hamburger place was for hamburgers and not everything else. The buns are toasted and big, the meat is cooked when you order it, and you get real pickles and real tomatoes on your Hamburger. I don't know who to compare them to as a chain but they are sorta like a really good backyard cookout with the hamburgers done the way you want it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Pastor Rick)Tue, 25 May 2010 12:52:35 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262072,from=rss#post262072https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262072,from=rss#post262072I've never heard of What-A-Burger, what's it along the same lines of.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Vegas Guy)Tue, 25 May 2010 05:00:04 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262071,from=rss#post262071https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262071,from=rss#post262071What-A-Burger has the best breakfast sandwich. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Pastor Rick)Tue, 25 May 2010 03:05:05 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262069,from=rss#post262069https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262069,from=rss#post262069I like BK for their $1 dbl cheeseburgers, and their Big Fish are way better than Mac Donald's pitiful offering but occasionally I get a hankering for a Big Mac. 2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Of course, none of them were in metric, so I had to convert that, too. I wonder if I can find baking powder here. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Mon, 24 May 2010 09:38:45 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262056,from=rss#post262056https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262056,from=rss#post262056Self-raising flour is hard to find here, indeed. People tend to buy baking soda or yeast, as needed. Hmm. Maybe I should bake a cake. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Mon, 24 May 2010 08:22:25 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262055,from=rss#post262055https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262055,from=rss#post262055Rick, you did add water, right? I agree with you both, though. Hamburger Helper isn't that great to begin with, although sour cream does help a bit. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Mon, 24 May 2010 07:13:27 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262054,from=rss#post262054https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262054,from=rss#post262054I consider myself a gourmand cook and must admit that I love Hamburger Helper..................... Not! Of course I add my own spices to them, oh, and sour cream, onions and occasionally mushrooms and extra meat but I'm sure that has nothing to do with how they taste. Otherwise Rick we like to call em cardboard taste in a box. Kinda like the new & improved Kraft Mac & Cheese with cheese crystals instead of the regular cheese powder.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Vegas Guy)Mon, 24 May 2010 02:21:00 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262052,from=rss#post262052https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262052,from=rss#post262052What sauce? They had this packet thing in the box but it was all powdery. I had to put two beef bullion cubes in with it just to get some flavor because it tasted like it was the 3rd day of a casserole left-over! I might have let it "simmer" too long because the noodles were kinda rubbery. But I did try to follow the directions. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Pastor Rick)Mon, 24 May 2010 00:27:43 +0000 Re: Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262051,from=rss#post262051https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262051,from=rss#post262051 Try converting a buttermilk biscuit recipe to metrics AND French. I was trying to find self-rising flour the other day, but apparently they don't have that in France. What went wrong with your Hamburger Helper? Overcooked or not cooked enough? Too much or not enough sauce? Did you stir it enough? As for simmering, a video can be worth a thousand pictures. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sun, 23 May 2010 23:29:02 +0000 Hamburger Helper directionshttps://bakheva.runboard.com/p262045,from=rss#post262045https://bakheva.runboard.com/p262045,from=rss#post262045Hamburger Helper meals are horrid! Don't they know a married man or bachelor has no idea how to cook? The directions say simmer but it still looks like it is boiling to me. Those directions need picture to show us poor men what to look for! Maybe if the makers had to eat the results of the man's attempts to cook they would do better. I think I'll mail the left-overs to them to see if they can figure out what I did wrong because of their sorry excuse for directions... what a waste...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Pastor Rick)Sun, 23 May 2010 21:22:46 +0000
