Re: New feature: Embed YouTube into posts
Thank you for that feedback, Wizard.
quote: When you click on link to YouTube you normally get the URL link in the right-hand side of the page anyway when you are viewing the clip (unless the owner has removed it)
Seeing these other links which I can relate to seem pointless to add.
Do you mean it's possible for someone to remove that URL box? Or, are you referring to the video itself when you say "removed"?
If the former, then this part makes perfect sense to include:
quote: ...click on the address in your browser's address bar....
If the latter, nobody would be trying to embed the non-existing video anyway.
It would be helpful for me to be able to make this distinction before I make the video tutorial for the FAQ that I mentioned. If that URL box is always there, then of course I can leave that part out of the FAQ.
Just so you know, I only found out about the YouTube embed implementation less than 2 hours before you it was implemented. Once I came home from work and was able to check this feature out for myself, it had already been up and running for about 4 hours, and I wanted to get some directions up as quickly as I could. But before I could write this, I had to try it out for myself, while I was running on less than 3 hours of sleep. Unfortunately, I was unable to choose the timing of this like I am with my blog tutorials.
That said, when I read this:
quote: I try to think on their level when adding hints and tips.
I admit I was a little irritated with what you seemed to be implicating about my communication skills there. My apologies if I was mistaken.

Re: New feature: Embed YouTube into posts
I you want to convert lists of YouTube videos contained in URL tags, just edit the post, highlight the bit between the open square bracket "[" and the "=" sign and type in the word "youtube" in that space, then delete everything after the 11 digits and replace it with a close square bracket "]".
You no longer have to type in the name of the video or the artist because YouTube puts it on the embedded video. Doing the conversion in playlists is very quick. It also makes polls, like our poll to choose our top five for each month very much easier than dong it with only the links and typing in the artists' names.
Thank you so much to all of you involved in designing this feature. I'm sure it's going to be a very good thing for renewing interest in the boards.
Well done!

Re: New feature: Embed YouTube into posts
You're welcome, MO. Thor did all the hard work. I just suggested a couple of methods initially (the format for the BBCode itself was mentioned by beavis), then double-checked a couple of things concerning YouTube IDs while he was finishing the script during my lunch hour, to save him a little time.

Re: New feature: Embed YouTube into posts
Sorry if that came over the wrong way LG, I always admire your approach when offering tutorials to members, they are always spot on.
I'm pretty sure the URL is always there in people's uploads, some have the embed address removed or blocked so people can't embed it on their sites, forums etc, that I do know 100% as I have used that option myself on YouTube
Hope this helps getting your tutorial up and running

Re: New feature: Embed YouTube into posts
LG, just spotted some code that needs editing, I was going to do it but didn't have accces.
320x265
.postlistpostbody object, .postlistpostbody embed { width: 425px; height: 344px; }
Your dimensions in the CSS code are different to the size description

Re: New feature: Embed YouTube into posts
Ahhh... I like that layout, much nicer looking than the quick post I made in the skin discussions.
